Therese Torris's insight:
I don't know about you but I've recently noticed a lot of spam among the comments on Scoop.it. Every time I spotted one, I've tried to notify the Scoop.it ticket/helpdesk who has been very responsive.
Would it help if we all do the same ?
Should Scopp.it add a spam button ?

I wanted to give you a follow-up update on the spam issues some of you reported these past few days.
Might be a sign of success but we did effectively get a lot more spammers than we used to. The problem we had was repeat spam from single accounts and different than what we had before. These accounts were created manually by humans (not bots) and exploited the comment or suggestion system to spam repeatedly at a very high rate a few number of successful topics (so including a lot of yours). Today, we launched a radically new system to fight that. Most of this is backend and on our end and it still relies on our community deleting spam comments or suggestions and most importantly helping us identify spammers by checking the "mark as spam" option. What happens following that is totally new and though you won't see it as behind the scenes, we feel pretty good it's going to be much more efficient for the whole community. Thanks again for having helped us understand the intensity of the problem and sorry you had to suffer from it. We're committed to keep Scoop.it free of spam and we're grateful to count on your support for that.

This is an update for any fellow Scoop.it curators about the recent spam that appeared. Nice to know the Scoop.it team didn't lose any time looking for fixes on that. We can help too by reporting all spam and deleting things as they appear in suggestions and notices.

TNW: [..] the auto tweets, which included every time you made a post to the service, appear to have gotten Pheed in hot water and have caused its Twitter access to be shut off, reports Techcrunch. This includes posting from it and new users signing up to Twitter. Twitter isn’t commenting, and Pheed’s CEO O.D. Kobo says it has a setting that allowed users to ‘opt out’ of the tweet, but I would be incredibly surprised if these auto-tweets weren’t what caused it to get turned off.... Delete the scoop?

Reddit is on the warpath recently, banning entire websites and news organizations from its site, in a bid to limit spam and abuse. [...] Phys.org TheAtlantic.com BusinessWeek.com ScienceDaily.com GlobalPost.com TheAtlanticWire.com Funny-On-YouTube.com TheAtlanticCities.com Echomon.com MedicalXPress.com ...[...] these domains are being put in the bad kids’ box for making too many no-nos. Why would people go through all of this folderall with Reddit? Why does the site matter? Roughly because a top link can ship over 100,000 people to a site in a single day... Delete the scoop?

Therese's comment: Pinterest has quite a strict policy regarding offensive content. Blocking other users from commeting and participating in one's board was one of the top user requests. Apparently, some users/women were harassed onPinterest. I haven't come across any sich abuse, but there surely was some spam going on. Anyway, it's always good to have a well moderated community.
