Pinterest raises $200 million at a $2.5 billion valuation

Pinterest raises $200 million at a $2.5 billion valuation | Content Curation Tools | Scoop.it
Pinterest has raised a new funding round of $200 million, putting the company’s valuation at $2.5 billion. The company has exploded in the last few years as users have flocked to collect images across the web and pin them to virtual boards.
Therese Torris's insight:

Brings the total money raised to a stunning $338 million.

What would YOU do with that amount of money ? Sell $1 bills for 50 cents to quickly get to 200 million  users ? You got it, that's the winning business model by US standards. The idea is to preempt competition by overfunding 1 winning startup. I does work (Facebook), albeit not all the time (see Groupon) . To be fair, it also requires a great product and Pinterest is one simple, attractive, addictive, viral tool.
