How to Avoid Costly Product Launch Mistakes

How to Avoid Costly Product Launch Mistakes | Curation, Social Business and Beyond |
There are so many possible pitfalls with any product launch. Here are 11 mistakes you need to avoid, along with hints on what you should be doing instead
janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Shane Barker   because it explains the importance of being prepared for a successful product launch.

In a competitive online environment it's important for your goods to stand out to consumers.

Create a Successful Product Launch

Today's online market is highly competitive in an age of social media and reviews. I agree that businesses can gain more attention with the right focus and strategy in place.

Barker shows you how you can best present your products with a strategized approach.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • A lack of planning can place your product launch off to a bad start. You need to have a strategy in place early on that you can make adjustments with as you move forward.

  • Don't forget to include a marketing strategy in the process. During production this can be placed on the back burner or missed -- which can cause you to lose prospects.

  • Understand what problem your product solves for your audience. You do this through proper market research and identify the needs and desires of your community.

Is it Better to Share on Google+, Facebook or Twitter?

Jeff Bullas never disappoints, this article is packed with vital information you need to know no matter if you're curating content to build your personal brand or marketing services.

Here's what caught my attention:

"The survival of the social species is a digital battle that will create opportunities and disrupt traditional business models for decades to come."

The Battle for Social

This small change to Google’s search features reveals an evolution of the web that is an early indicator of the growing battle for social that will over time produce winners and losers but will also create a web that will surprise you with its speed and capabilities. The announcement and launching of Google+ saw Zuckerberg respond with a a Skype feature offering free video calls and promising more to come.

Social is about Sharing

All marketers know that if you can make something so shareable that it goes viral then you will produce results for brands that will sell products, make people famous and maybe even position your agency as part of marketing folklore.

GetVega is a Pinterest-Like Visual Clipping Tool - Check This Out!

GetVega is a Pinterest-Like Visual Clipping Tool - Check This Out! | Curation, Social Business and Beyond |

Robin Good: GetVega is a Pinterest-like visual clipping tool, which allows you to create lists and visual collections of commercial products while easily capturing selective info relative to each one (cost, size, weight, price, etc.).

As I have been writing, one of the key next evolutionary areas for content curation tools, is the delivery format. It is on this front that there are lots of marvellous opportunities yet to be tapped. And GetVega is one of the first curation tools to do a great job on this front.

In fact, one key feature inside GetVega is the ability to display curated collections in one of three different visual formats, depending on the type of list and use you want to make of it. One such display format is extremely effective and valuable as it makes it easy to "compare" products and info within one collection.

GetVega provides a Google Chrome extension that allows you to easily clip one or more images from any product page, as well as any specific product info text or video.

Check out for example this curated collection of iPad alternatives: You can see at a glance the different tools and their key specs.

Collections can be set to be either "public" or "private" and can be easily shared on

Similar "product curation tools" include:
Polyvore, Wanelo, Bagcheck, Curisma, OpenSky, Lyst

Recommended. 8/10

Consumers Spending More Time On Brand Consideration

Consumers Spending More Time On Brand Consideration | Curation, Social Business and Beyond |
Brand consideration has become a key pastime for consumers.

Matthijs van den Broek wrote this amazing book "How Hot Brands Stay Hot" and he has  amazing pieces from his blog by the same name. I assume lots of you are marketing products and services and this piece is very informatitive.

Brand consideration has become a key pastime for consumers. For over half of the population studied in this paper by Initiative (pdf), – 52% of the interviewees said they enjoy searching online for a wide range of brands and products.

This varies by category: 29% of consumers enjoy searching for shampoo brands, but this leaps to 66% for cars. And it varies by country: the Chinese are the most likely to search for brand information, followed by the Spanish. Some consumers told us they simply enjoyed searching for information and opinion about brands.

Across the globe, nearly half of consumers – 45% – told they are spending more time than ever when considering their choice of products. This rises to 60% for mobile phones.
