janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Nicole Stelmar because it explains how to improve your content with a better understanding of your target market.

We can create valuable information for our readers when we know their pain points.

Improve Your Content Reach

In order to successfully reach your audience you need to know what makes them tick. I agree that you can create better content by learning about their needs and desires.

Stelmar explains how to find out more about your target market in order to have a clear picture of who they are.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • When gathering data about your customers find out things such as demographics, age, financial status, ect. By answering these you can create a buyer persona.

  • Have a CRM program in place so that your company can track your communication. This will help improve your customer relations.

  • Use surveys to gather information about your prospects and customers. Keep these short, simple, and use direct yes and no questions.

It's important for your business to have an effective marketing plan in addition to your business plan.

The Importance Quality Metrics for More Sales

The Importance Quality Metrics for More Sales | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it
When comparing quantity metrics with quality metrics, Certainly, one is easier. But it's the other that will bring you conversions
janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Robert Caruso because it explains the importance of quality metrics when measuring the results of your business's marketing efforts.

Understanding the outcome of your marketing strategies can help improve your conversion rates.

Measuring for Business Success

You can be successful generating more sales with the right metrics in place. I agree that many businesses fail to understand the full scope of their activities online.

Caruso explains what quality metrics look like and how this can affect your bottom line.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • When it comes to taking a look at digital marketing your metrics should look at the quality rather than the quantity. This will then determine your investment of time, money, and resources.

  • You can have a false sense of success by focusing on vanity metrics, which relies on data from activities rather than certain activities. This provides very little actionable data to measure.

  • If you want to increase your sales then you need to dive deeper into actionable activity such as conversion rates, time spent on your website, cost per lead, ect.

Edan Joy Gelt's curator insight, March 22, 11:53 PM

What an intuitive piece about quality versus quantity.  I've actually had clients that have bought "likes" and "followers" thinking that the more followers, the better they appear as a business (power of social psychology). This fake dilution actually depletes their efforts in the social channel for a small, temporary illusion of grandeur.  The importance of a quality audience being offered quality content is what translates to the bottom line.  Likes, clicks and follows are not reflective of NOI.

janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Tony Zambito because it explains how to digital transformation has changed the way businesses understand their customers.

The new digital-centric world and customer reach.

New Customer Approaches Emerge in the Digital Age

If your business has been online for any amount of time you already know how emerging trends have changed the customer journey. I agree that in order to reach them you need to approach them on their level.

Zambito explains different methods of reaching your audience in the midst of a digital age.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Just sixteen years ago the business landscape was very different. Today digital technology has shifted buyer persona development and insight gathering.

  • In order to reach customers today there needs to be new thinking and new approaches in place. This needs to go beyond analytics tools and outdated sales practices.

  • The what, how and why of your audience must now be measured through observation. Words are far less effective in measurement -- it's action that counts.

Sharma explains the basics of content planning through keyword research.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Narrow down your focus to ten keywords that you would like to see ranked high on Google. Take a look at what is already showing up in the #1 spot.

  • Go to Google and research titles, descriptions, and H1 tags. This will give you insights into your competitors' rankings and which organic keywords they are using.

janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Tony Zambito because it provides insights on how digital and online information has transformed content marketing.

The idea of strategizing content has diminished over the last few years due to mobile and technology trends.

Why Context is More Important Than Content

Content should be tailored for your audience and what makes sense to them specifically. I agree that you can reach more people by reducing the amount of information being presented to them.

Zambito explains the basics of context in how it relates to today's online consumer.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • In order to be effective marketers need to understand the method of a connected series of stories. These should involve goal-directed behaviors and activities of buyers.

  • When it comes to effectively using context timing is critical. It's about what buyers are experiencing over time rather than a specific trigger.

janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Raymond Morin because it explains the latest results by Nielsen on the habits of social media users.

The biggest audience on social media is not millennials after all.

The Changing Landscape in Marketing Online

People between the ages of 35 and 50 spend the most amount of time on social networks. I agree that this reveals the younger generation prefer to spend their time on mobile devices.

Morin explains the details of the study and explains how brands need to respect the values of their community with genuine interactions on social media.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • The use of social media differs according to the type of platform that is used. For example, on Facebook 178.8 million users log on with their smart phone in the U.S.

  • Depending on the nature of the social network, the nature of the users also changes. They will interact in different ways with brands.

  • Generations also have differences. Millenials are most likely to follow a business to gather information about them and to be entertained. Gen X'rs tend to follow for promotions, and Baby Boomers follow for promotions and information.

It's important to use the right keywords for your niche to grow your reach on Instagram.

Improve Your Following on Instagram With Hashtags

Herman explains how your posts can attract the right followers for your brand.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • You need to know specifically what sets your posts apart rather than using generic terms. This will improve your chances of getting found in the 'top spots' on Instagram.

  • The best method is to use 15-20 hashtags per post and then focus on the 4-5 popular ones. These need to be related to your posts, and have a high number of usage.

Instagram tips on hashtags
Vanessa Ong Li Wen's curator insight, March 19, 10:39 AM

As a non-user of Instagram, I understand the attraction of the application and the use of hashtags to gather as many like as possible. However, I fail to understand the prevalence of such a technology in our world today. An article on how to use hashtags as effectively as possible? When did it become a necessity for us to write about getting as many likes and affirmation as possible? If I were to use Instagram, I would treat hashtags as a way to simply and deconstruct the message that my photo was trying to convey. For example, if I were to post a photo of an art piece, instead of writing a detailed explanation of the piece which most would not want to read about, I would use hashtags to highlight whatever it is I wish to express to my followers. While I understand that Instagram may be attractive because it lets us in on our friends’ lives and serves as a platform for us to receive affirmation from our peers, I do not think we should rely on Instagram so heavily to the extent that we write articles on how to make our posts more popular and well received. We should make use of this application to share our photos and activities with our friends, as well as show appreciation to others through this platform.

  • According to a study by Accenture, 34 percent of CMO and CEOs reported that their customers were more likely to engage with new entrant competitors. This is because the experience is more positive than traditional businesses.

  • Startups breaking into an established market need to pay attention to new and innovative products in order to be successful. This is important if you want to stay relevant to your audience.

How to Avoid Costly Product Launch Mistakes

How to Avoid Costly Product Launch Mistakes | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it
There are so many possible pitfalls with any product launch. Here are 11 mistakes you need to avoid, along with hints on what you should be doing instead
janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Shane Barker   because it explains the importance of being prepared for a successful product launch.

In a competitive online environment it's important for your goods to stand out to consumers.

Create a Successful Product Launch

Today's online market is highly competitive in an age of social media and reviews. I agree that businesses can gain more attention with the right focus and strategy in place.

Barker shows you how you can best present your products with a strategized approach.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • A lack of planning can place your product launch off to a bad start. You need to have a strategy in place early on that you can make adjustments with as you move forward.

  • Don't forget to include a marketing strategy in the process. During production this can be placed on the back burner or missed -- which can cause you to lose prospects.

  • Understand what problem your product solves for your audience. You do this through proper market research and identify the needs and desires of your community.

Does Your Business Need Data Journalism?

Does Your Business Need Data Journalism? | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it
The Internet has made it possible for everyone to access data easily. Whether you want to know how much the Ex-PM of Italy is paying his wife in alimony (recently reduced from 3 million Euro a month to a mere 1.4m, that’s how much), what a particularly frugal British princess wore in 1983, 1991 and then again in 2011 (no, I am not letting the cat out of the bag), or who played the most 100+ yard rushing games in the AFC (Barry Foster, duh!) – the Internet has the answer. The Internet has become so synonymous with data that
janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Avinash Nair because it explains how fact checking has gone from just journalism to just about every industry.

Use data journalism to help your business understand emerging trends and industry changes.

How Your Brand Can Better Use Data

As a business it's important to understand both analytics and tracking. I agree that in order to be effective you need to use the same methods that journalists have done in their research.

Nair explains exactly what data journalism is and what this means for your business information discovery process.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Data is not just about the numbers. Interactive charts can involve your audience in a way that tells your business important backlinks and the who is responding.

  • Use social media as an analyzing tool. Use a long form post along with hashtags that can also be converted into an infographic or PPT that can be shared and measured.

  • Focus on storytelling methods by looking at other articles in your industry and who the authors are. This provides useful information that you can use in your own content marketing strategy.

How to Improve Your Social Customer Service

How to Improve Your Social Customer Service | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it
Instead of assuming what makes your customers (un)happy, the first thing you should to improve customer satisfaction is listening to them to get feedback
janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Paolo Fabrizio because it explains how to understand what your customers are looking for on social media.

It's important to know what your community thinks of your brand in order to provide the best customer service.

Tap Into Online Conversations and Reach More Customers

Addressing issues before they become a problem is especially important on social media. I agree that your business can better communicate with your audience through social listening techniques.

Fabrizio shows you several ways to improve your reach and solve your customers' problems.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Start thinking about your customers first. Use an effective social analytics resource to learn more about the competition and your own brand.

  • Constantly monitor social conversations. This will help you learn more about your target market and prevent any issues from popping up.

  • Find out exactly what makes your customers unhappy. Use this information to improve the satisfaction rate and mitigate any crisis that is taking place or has the potential to.
