Dispelling Digital Marketing Myths

Effective marketing is not difficult -- it just takes a specific strategy. I agree that in order to best reach your audience you need to know what works and what does not.

Brenner explains what digital marketing means to your business and how to make it successful.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • It's good practice to consistently produce great content. Articles need to be quality, and grab the reader's attention.

  • A negative reaction online isn't always a bad thing to happen. Avoid trolls, but engage with those who are your loyal audience.

  • Digital marketing encompasses many different mediums from blogs to email, and more. Be sure your content in these places is relevant to your target market.

I selected this article from Curatti written by Tony Zambito because it explains how outdated buyer insights can affect our B2B sales.

You can reach your prospects through a better understanding of why customers make a purchase.

Exploring the B2B Buyer Journey

The digitization of business has changed the buyer landscape significantly. I agree that your customers will respond as you reach them where they are at.

Zambito shows you several ways to gain better insights on your prospects and how to improve your B2B sales.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • B2B companies have to come to the realization that they are living within their own digital bubble. This includes over-reliance on activity-based data intelligence.

  • Digital transformation is felt mostly in channels and distribution. For example, the way consumers purchase a book is now far different than in the past.

  • Cloud-based platforms are now affecting how people take action and make decisions. A new virtual dependence is emerging merging users and buyers into one.

Context Is King In Marketing

Context Is King In Marketing | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it
Context is the differentiator in Content Marketing. It is king, and an essential aspect of any digital marketing campaign
janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Tony Zambito because it provides insights on how digital and online information has transformed content marketing.

The idea of strategizing content has diminished over the last few years due to mobile and technology trends.

Why Context is More Important Than Content

Content should be tailored for your audience and what makes sense to them specifically. I agree that you can reach more people by reducing the amount of information being presented to them.

Zambito explains the basics of context in how it relates to today's online consumer.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • In order to be effective marketers need to understand the method of a connected series of stories. These should involve goal-directed behaviors and activities of buyers.

  • When it comes to effectively using context timing is critical. It's about what buyers are experiencing over time rather than a specific trigger.

  • Understanding the goals of your audience will help you move toward context. Not doing so can lead to content marketing failure.

janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Robert Caruso because it explains how technology innovations and new business models and solutions can speak to the needs of a target market as well as impact companies.

Digital disruption is occurring in almost every industry.

What Businesses Need to Understand About the Latest Tech Changes

A business experiencing change with the latest digital advances needs to find the source. I agree that in order to leverage this disruption and make it work effectively we need to understand first where it is originating.

Caruso provides examples and the main factors in these new trends, and how this is affecting businesses.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • The source of digital disruption depends on the industry. This can include product innovations, customer engagement on social media, and new business models.

  • Businesses respond in different ways to these new changes. While some hire digital savvy employees others are partnering with other companies.

  • The latest trends can be both good and bad for businesses. Companies like Uber and Airnb can pose a threat to older models.

The Evolution of Digital: Entering the Era of Curation

The Evolution of Digital: Entering the Era of Curation | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it

Thought leaders from major brands discuss how digital technology and the use of curation is helping consumers connect with brands on many platforms. Lots on insights and good information.

What caught my attention:

"How are we consuming content? How we're being effected by what we read. The social fabric of how we consume media is changing. We get news on our smartphones, Ipads, accessing the social graph through multiple channels. We're never unplugged, we're always checking FB, Twitter, email."

Trusted souces who curate quality content consistently by adding context, will be very important as all of this evolves. Brands who educate their consumers on how to access their content in ways that fit their consumption habits and make it user friendly will thrive.

We used to curate objects. Now we're using technology to curate our lives

We used to curate objects. Now we're using technology to curate our lives | Curation, Social Business and Beyond | Scoop.it

Adrian Hon (wrote this article) He is the Founder and Chief Creative at Six to Start, an online games company; he originally trained as a neuroscientist at Cambridge and Oxford. He takes a strong interest in the controversies surrounding intellectual copyright. Follow Adrian on Twitter at @adrianhon.

Interesting and so true!

Here's what caught my attention:

It’s important to clarify what I mean by curation here because I feel there are a few requirements for a collection to qualify. Firstly, whether physical or digital, the collection needs to be a selection of objects rather than an exhaustive archive. Secondly, the selection needs to convey some kind of view or message, even if it’s a neutral, educational one. Finally, the collection must be at least semi-public, otherwise it’s simply a private hoard.

If you accept those guidelines, it turns out that an awful lot of what we do already counts as curation: think of the books in your living room, or the pictures you mount on your walls. You don’t simply dump every single book you own there – you carefully choose and curate which ones to show off. The key difference between our homes and museums is that the message we’re trying to convey is (usually) not educational or artistic, but our own personality and taste.

Content, Context, Curation - Social Media Marketing 101

Interesting observations and suggestions for those who are trying to fine tune content curation.

Today, we seek to give our identity the words it needs to thrive in the marketplace. The way we says things, where we say it and to whom we say it can be the difference between shouting our message blindly from the rooftops or whispering it to an empty room. Ideally, we aim to be somewhere in the middle, talking in our own voice, conversationally to a room full of interested people.

This is one of those posts by Conversation Agent that helps to fine tune your content strategy and make it effective for you and your audience/customers.

"Content, which is anything that informs, educates, or entertain online, is your business digital body language. The Internet changed how people find and read content.

The Internet changed how people find and read content. While it was helpful to have a strategy for publishing information about your business before the Web, people didn't necessarily track if what you gave them as brochures and papers was integrated with everything else.

Great takeaway:  the contemporary Web site presence should be organized in thirds, with 1/3 editorial impact, 1/3 community building, and 1/3 marketing or calls to action.

On the one hand, progress fueled by Mobile Marketing brings us solutions that make our lives easier. On the other hand, we have to adapt to changes faster.
janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Julia Kravchenko because it explains why businesses need to stay flexible in their marketing as technology continues to change.

Mobile's evolution requires us to adapt to the latest approaches in business.

How Mobile Has Transformed Marketing

While businesses should have a mobile marketing strategy they need to be open to any shifts in technology. I agree that you need to stay on top of the latest advances -- especially when it comes to attracting new customers.

Kravchenko provides insights into why mobile marketing can be a challenge in the midst of its benefits.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • Social networks and mobile are now intertwined. More than half of users check their devices the first thing they wake up. This is why digital marketing continues to be on the rise.

  • Google launched AMP (Accelerated Mobile Page) in 2016 along with PWA (Progressive Web Apps) because of the growing trend of mobile usage. Businesses that don't meet the new requirements are losing the visibility race.

  • The new direct way to communicate with customers is through push notifications. As this becomes more popular these are turning into more personalized messages.

janlgordon's insight:

I selected this article from Curatti written by Michael Brenner because he shows how companies have only tapped into a small portion of the latest innovations.

Many businesses are falling behind when it comes to keeping up with new technology.

Digital Divide Has Created an Economy of "Haves" and "Have Mores"

The United States is at the top when it comes to technological innovations. I agree that businesses need to fully tap into this realm in order to stay competitive.

Brenner shows statistics that prove only 18 percent of the economy is utilizing digital methods. This is due to new and emerging trends.

Here's what caught my attention:

  • The digital gap has produced a boost for companies who are more advanced. Sectors lagging behind are suffering with lower productivity and performance.

  • Most companies have a large technology budget. But it is the usage that determines whether they stay relevant.

  • Not all businesses that are leaders in the digital age began that way. Many firms struggle to keep up with digitization and product delivery.
