Video 3 - Classroom and Behavior Management- Middle School - YouTube

Dessy Gt's insight:

This  video show the management skill of a middle school teacher. She says that as a role model it is imporatant to show positive behavior to the students. She stress the usage of team work and helping the class work together to achive group taks. She gives the class the "eye" to give warnings, raise her hands and th euse of marbles to reward the students. I think is imprant that she stress teamwork with the students. I have noticed that when the students work together they help each other and attentive to what the teacher is teaching the class.

At my Elementary school, the teacher had group teams and rewarded them when they showed good behavior. She express her goals for each groups and assigned group leaders to help the students.

Character Management in Class

Character Management in Class | School Management | Scoop.it
Revise for Spanish--have 1 for student, have another for teacher, then establish classroom contract for behaviors as a group
Dessy Gt's insight:

This is a great chart that can be displayed on the wall of the classroom. It helps the students to build character and improve their social skills. They will learn about peer group team work and  be referred to the chart to improve their actions. I think this is helpful because it is simple task that the students need to be reminded and it builds on their social skills at the same time. Helping each other and being kind is building character and creating a postive learning enviroment for the students.

I think by enforcing this in the classroom the teacher can prevent fights and arguements in the classroom and decrease disruptive behaviors that may occur. This can be applied from early elementary to 6th grade. Some students forget to be kind and it can leads to bullying ,arguments and other negative behavior. A little reminder can help the day go smooth and increase transitons along the day smoothly.

In my Classroom students were not nice to one another and some lacked manners. Student would get off task and express the "Is Not" in this chart. I can see how helpful this simple chart can be in the classroom and its effectiveness to build classroom character as a group and individually.

Classroom & Student Management- Attention

Classroom & Student Management- Attention | School Management | Scoop.it
Pay attention, Please!
Dessy Gt's insight:

This is a pinterest picture of ways to help students pay attention and learn in the classroom. It uses the bold words, ask, give, move, and remove to do tasks that will help the teacher pinpoint the issue and help the student to be focused. It is important to start early mangement and discipline of the students in the class so that the class can work as a team together and look out for their peers. Students at a young age can easily distract each other and by following these guidelines you can have students work together to help them compliment their strengths and their weakness. A retired teacher once told me that by managing the classroom early, students look out for each other and help each other because they know what the teaching is expecting from them. When the students travel as group to different classroom, they remember their teacer's expectations and help each other out.

Personality Management of High-Needs Students

Personality Management of High-Needs Students | School Management | Scoop.it
Founded in 1943, ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) is an educational leadership organization dedicated to advancing best practices and policies for the success of each learner.
Dessy Gt's insight:

The bottom portion of this article talks about the different personalities of students and how the teacher can help manage and help the student. Students can be passive who fear relationship and failure, the teacher can help them by reducting  criticism and help the student buld relationships with their peers. Student who are aggressive  can fall into three groups; hostile, oppositional, covert. Hostile students have poor anger controlling skills, lack empathy and understanding of consequences of their own actions. The oppostitional student does not follow directions, aruges and annoy other students. The Covert student is nearby trouble and does not follow certain directions. The teacher can help these students by creating behavior contracts, rewards and punishments and have help them to address their fears and pain. The next need can be the students with attention problem, they can be hyperactive or inattentive. The teacher can help both students by helping the students concentrate, stydy , improve their thinking skills and divide their tasks. The next student need can be the perfectionist who can be critical and feel inferior. The teacher can help these students by helping them set standards, help them accept their mistakes and help other students by tutoring them. The next student need is the socially inept they have a hard time with social skills and making friends, the teacher can help them by counseling them and have them work in groups in the classroom. These needs are different for each child and the teacher  must be flexible to help the student work with thier needs to help them improve their character and social skills.

I can understand why this is imporant because I have a combination of these needs. It was very helpful when my teachers talked to me about it and try to understand me. I felt more comfortable and ready to express my needs to the teacher. By doing this I built strong relationship with my teacher and I was encouraged to learn.

Dessy Gt's insight:

This PDF talks about strategies for better classroom management. It is imporatant for new teachers to establish a good management for the class so they can control their class and make effective time for learning.  Teachers are encouraged to have effective disicipline, preparation for lessons and build a safe and motivating environment for the students. Classroom manangement can depend on teaching style, personalities and the student population. Teachers have to manage the attention of their students . disruptive behaviors and off task students. Strategies that teachers can take is being silent when speaking so the class , focus on the tone of the teachers voice. over plan the classroom to keep the students busy and on task. Learn the students names quickly and decrease transitioning times. Make the classroom comfortable and safe for the students to have  a good learning environment . By becoming better at managing the classroom, teachers can identify students who are off-task, talking too much, clowning , daydreaming and moving throught the class. The teacher can focus on decreasing these activities and have the students work in peer groups to help each other.

During my visits at University Park Elementary School, I was able to see three classroom and the management style of the teachers. My classroom was a mix of the two classroom management style. The class on the left was very structured with no disruptive  or off-task students. The classroom on the left was loud with students moving and talking while the teacher was talking. The teacher voiced her instruction in a loud tone of voice to get the students to listen. Comparing both classroom, my class had a little bit of both but also needed room for improvement. I saw the various teaching styles of the teachers and how they manage their class.
