Content Marketing is a Balance of Curation and Creation | Marketing Technology

Content Marketing is a Balance of Curation and Creation | Marketing Technology | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

Content Marketing is a Balance of Curation and Creation by Douglas Karr on Marketing Technology

As we review topics on the Marketing Technology Blog to write about, we research their popularity as well as the content that’s already been published. If we believe we can update the topic and add additional details that are key to the topic – we typically take on the task of writing it ourselves. If we believe we can better illustrate the topic through images, diagrams, screenshots or even video – we’ll also take it on.

A good example of this was responsive design. We read a ton of articles out there – there was no shortage! However, when we identified that we could produce a video that explained it well, an article that pointed to its advantages, and an infographic that we could share that someone else had created… we knew we had a winner.

Our push isn’t just to write, it’s to share the best content we can develop. And if you follow the Marketing Technology Blog on Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere else, you’ll see that we share a ton of content from sites that are very much competing with us for our audience. Why? Because if we can’t do a better job explaining it, why not add value to our audience by sharing the amazing content of others?

Why LinkedIn Doesn't Work for Content Marketing

Why LinkedIn Doesn't Work for Content Marketing | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

Why LinkedIn Doesn't Work for Content Marketing
Having a fascinating conversation with +Cendrine Marrouat about LinkedIn. Linkedin's "edgerank" or whatever they are using to depress how many of my connections see content I post IN LinkedIn is working.

I created a test between Linkedin and my blog recently posting half on Scenttrail marketing (http://www.scenttrail.com/why-im-not-an-seo/ ) and the other half on LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-im-seo-martin-marty-smith ) Scenttrail Marketing, my personal blog I just dusted off, crushed Linkedin confirming what we've been feeling - there is no "there" there for LI and content markeitng.

Post continues on G+ where there is a there there despite naysayers.l

Content Marketing Why Knowing Your Numbers Matters

Content Marketing Why Knowing Your Numbers Matters | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it
Every single business should have a blog and this blog should be part of your website, not hosted elsewhere, in fact I would go far as to say a blog is essential in today’s content marketing world. Your blog is your main focal point, the center if you like of all your content marketing efforts and that is why it must be on your website, because your website is the one thing that you own and control. If you think of your blog as the engine, then blogging is the fuel that drives that engine on your journey to online success. Without the knowledge to ensure blogging success, you’re simply shooting in the dark with your blog posts hoping something sticks and gives you traction. Miracles like this do happen, occasionally but you are an awful lot more likely to have success if you understand what you are doing and are following a plan.

By having your blog setup correctly, which normally means installing Google Analytic you have access to a wealth of information you can view and study. Viewing your numbers will help you to do more of what is working and less of what isn’t working for you.

Your numbers will tell you how many people are visiting your blog, how they came to you, what they are reading (interested in) and much more. You can determine through your stats how many people landed on your website and simply bounced off to another website without sticking around to read more. Plus if you use Google Analytic correctly you can figure out how many visitors you’re converting to subscribers and how many of those become customers.

Research confirms and we know this intuitively, positive customer experiences will keep our customers coming back. No one wants to continue doing business with a company after a bad experience, poor customer service, wrong product shipments that aren’t quickly rectified, or for any number of other reasons that can ruin a consumer’s attitude towards a brand.

How To Make A Fairy Tale Convert : The Art Of Storytelling | Medium

How To Make A Fairy Tale Convert : The Art Of Storytelling - The Coffeelicious - Medium

"Storytelling is the art of convincing your target audience to empty their pockets for your products and services without actually giving them a sales pitch. What replaces the sales pitch in this campaign is a fairy tale that revolves around their lives and features your products every now and then showcasing how ‘useful’ they are.

Great stories always begin with a hook, making a promise to the reader that reading it is going to be worth their time (and money). The first and foremost thing to do post setting the hook, is to make your customer the hero of the story!

Then you can walk in all the elves and miscellaneous fancies to keep him hooked; no matter which character you use, ensure that is relatable to the reader and not you.

No matter how long your story is, the one thing that will keep your readers going is the crown prize that is being promised or suggested through the tale. The next step is to just make sure your story has a happy ending that is in sync with what has been filled in by your audience previously via feedbacks, polls and other interactions.

Remember, everyone loves a happily ever after!"

Read the full article to find out more about these tips to keep in mind when you tell your own fairy tale:

  1. Don’t be Cruella — just quit the show off!
  2. Don’t run on Cinderella’s time — make it last!
  3. Don’t be a bore — what if the shoe never got lost?
  4. Don’t go haywire — stick to a theme!
  5. Don’t add to their grief — make it a happy ending!
  6. Don’t make the ending a definite one — keep them wanting more!

How to Calculate Your Content Curation ROI

How to Calculate Your Content Curation ROI | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

As you can see, if you’re having trouble tracking ROI for content marketing, you’re definitely not alone. Only 21% of B2B marketers said they were successful at tracking ROI. Only 23% of B2C marketers said the same.

But don’t let those graphs get you down. And definitely don’t use them as an excuse for not even trying to track ROI. Maybe you’ll never achieve a perfect ROI measurement, but even a rough idea of whether you’re profitable or not is important. It’s especially important if you want to pitch your boss or senior staff for more budget, or maybe even a raise.

There are a lot of ways that ROI calculations can get painfully complex, but it’s better to have a flawed analysis than no analysis at all. Besides, you’re not launching a spaceship based on how perfectly accurate your ROI calculations are. All you really need to know is if you’re profitable or not....
