Why Engaging Online Content Is a Must for SEO

Why Engaging Online Content Is a Must for SEO | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it
How your startup can benefit from high-quality website content, and why you might need to hire someone to oversee it for you.

Neil Ferree's curator insight, June 14, 2013 8:38 PM

Key factors Google considers to be indicators of high quality:

  • Longer content
  • Images and video
  • Proper text formatting
  • Correct spelling and grammar
  • Outbound links to other high-quality sites
  • Inbound links and social shares from other high-quality sources

A proper content strategy requires a significant amount of time and talent. But as a time-crunched business owner, you might not have enough bandwidth to regularly generate and oversee the content creation for your website. If that's the case consider hiring a director of content who can create and publish white papers, newsletters blog posts or e-books for you.

Make sure your http://bit.ly/RichSnippet renders with the content you create publish and syndicate to your top socials.

Now It's Official: More Google Searches Are Coming From Mobile Than Desktop | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

Following years of speculation about the demise of desktop-based search, Google is officially announcing today that for the first time, more searches come from smartphones and tablets than from laptops and desktops.

Smartphones account for more than half of searches in 10 countries—including the U.S. and Japan—according to Google, which didn't release exact percentages or a full list of countries. But it is playing up mobile at its annual AdWords Performance Summit, being live-streamed this afternoon.

"The purchase funnel is officially dead," proclaimed Jerry Dischler, vp of product management at Google. "What we're seeing are these short bursts of activity that we're calling micro-moments. We see the new challenge for marketers is to be there at those moments anytime, anywhere....

5 things content marketers should learn from list headlines

Listicles and number-based headlines refuse to die. Here are five reasons why and five things you can do instead of simply imitating them.

Doug Kessler makes a very good analysis of why numbers are so attractive in blog headlines and what it means to Content Marketers. It's something I also observed when analyzing the performance of our email marketing and our subject lines (details here: http://bit.ly/1c9HufY ).

In our own analysis, the correlation existed but not to the point where we stopped using anything else. Plus a number of our headlines that include numbers are actually not lists.

An interesting objection to this rule is Upworthy: it's hard to think of any site being less click-bait driven than this one. Yet, they don't use numbers or list given the format they're using but also probably because unlike Buzzfeed or b2b content marketers, they focus on being inspirational.

But for the latter who need to be educating their prospects, following the principles Doug Kessler outlines in this post is a great rule.
