ResumUp. Faites un Cv à partir de votre profil LinkedIn. | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

The Importance of Creating a Media Hub for Your Small Business (and how to do it)

The Importance of Creating a Media Hub for Your Small Business (and how to do it) | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

Over the past few years you may have noticed a change in the way you are consuming content. With more and more large companies looking to find ways to connect to their ideal consumer there has been a shift in the way content is being developed and shared.

Via Ally Greer
more...
Ally Greer's curator insight, September 30, 4:15 PM

What exactly is a media hub?

In the context of marketing, it's a place where various types of content - articles, videos, images, etc - exist for the purpose of engaging audiences and spreading knowledge and information to current and future customers.

As Daniel Newman explains, we're no longer living in a time where brands can simply publish content about themselves and successfully connect with their audiences. Newman puts it perfecly when he says today's world of marketing "is more about sharing and collaborating and with that generosity comes interest, loyalty, and commitment to a brand."

While the example in this article is American Express, a company that most of us have heard of and is probably a little bit bigger than the average SMB, having a media hub is equally important for the mom & pop businesses who are trying to grow their brands online.

Creating a media hub doesn't only apply to large businesses, and it also doesn't have to take a lot of budget and/or time.

The tips in this article, like beginning to blog and create visual content, building community, and getting social, are great for getting started with your media hub. Once you've begun putting your knowledge out there, your community will start coming together and your audience will have a place to go to interact with you and your brand.

But, one question still remains: how do I actually organize all of this activity without having to create my own website from scratch?

The tips provided by Newman in this article are a great starting point, and having a place for your media hub to live is the next step of the equation. There are many tools in existence that brands can use to discover content, to organize content, and to distribute content, and there are also some tools that serve as all three. At Scoop.it, we've divided our content hub based upon the different demographics that we'd like to reach and the different areas of our expertise that are aligned with each of these demographics.

By having an organized content-filled page for each of the areas of expertise of the company, we're able to engage different audiences in different ways while still maintaining the overall media hub feel.

Are you ready to get started with your media hub? Get a demo of Scoop.it Enterprise and we'll get you on your feet!

8 discoveries from our marketing technologist survey - Chief Marketing Technologist

8 discoveries from our marketing technologist survey - Chief Marketing Technologist | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

Digest...

1. We identified six different archetypes of marketing technologists. See the infographic.

2. Less than 26% of today’s marketing technologists have a STEM undergrad degree.

…and just 19% had a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) graduate degree.

3. Marketing technologists come from both marketing and technology disciplines.

Marketing managers are the #1 job leading to a marketing technologist. But as a category, a technical or programming background is the most common. In other words, they’re doing things with technology they never expected.

4. Just 8.6% of marketing technologists reported to the CIO.

And speaking of their job, most of them don’t report into the CIO. Instead, most report into the CMO (31.4%) or CEO (23.9%). In sum, 64% reported into the CMO, CEO, CIO or similar SVP roles.

5. Just 7% of those surveyed have marketing technologist in their title.

While 78.9% of companies have an individual or a team to manage marketing technologists in our study, most of them don’t have “marketing technologist” in their title. Instead, marketing, business, or technology titles dominate.

6. Five skills — across both technology and marketing — emerged as table stakes.

Our respondents ranked 44 job skills by importance for the future of marketing; the top five are marketing strategy and positioning, target market identification, website design including responsive and adaptive, CRM systems and platforms, and the ability to persuade and negotiate.

7. Surprisingly, there are large skills gaps in both technology skills and, to a lesser degree, marketing fundamentals.

The marketing technologist of today may not be trained in traditional technology, but they’re increasingly being asked to provide expertise on these areas. Marketing technologists identified significant gaps in the hard technology skills they ranked as most important — big data and customer relationship management.

8. Marketing technologists are much more excited than stressed.

The good news — they are much more excited than stressed. 74.3% reported being extremely or very excited, but just 42.9% reported being extremely or very stressed.

Rise of the Storyteller / Analyst - via @Jgraymatter for Forbes

Rise of the Storyteller / Analyst - via @Jgraymatter for Forbes | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

Marty Note
Wait long enough, or in my case live long enough, and it gets to be YOUR TURN (lol). I loved this Justin Gray post on Forbes explaining that MARKETING is the last thing an online play needs.

Couldn't agree more.

I was trained in a different kind of marketing than we practice now at our startup Curagami. I was trained to invade Russia in the winter. THEN messages were few enough and far enough between capturing territory and holding it was possible.

Not so much anymore.

These days capturing hearts, minds and loyalty is the game and everything is happening all at once all the time. The skills needed to play this game, as Justin so astutely notes, are different. Here is an excellent summary of those skills from his Forbes post:

  • Content creators. In an era of shrinking attention spans, the ability to craft compelling stories into engaging online content is key. That’s why marketers need the same skills as a journalist: ideation, writing and editing.
  • Analysts. Marketers need to know how to extract insights from data and use it to make meaningful decisions. They also need to create models to collect data and feedback easily.
  • Designers. Modern marketers must have an eye for aesthetics and be able to capitalize on trends in real time. Look for candidates who can create high-quality, consumer-facing assets at a rapid pace.
  • Planners. Marketers engineer a brand’s interface with the buyer, including when, how and where they’re interacting. That means creating workflows and campaigns based on buyers’ behaviors while paying attention to other messages and campaigns.

AGREE and not just because I'm benefiting from such an analysis. I imagine EVEN if I was still working for one of the largest Consumer Products companies as I did a lifetime ago (P&G, M&M/Mars) we wouldn't be invading Russia in the winter anymore.

UNLESS, we were invading with a tribe of brand Sherpas, telling the story as we went and watching our analytics and pivoting based on what we learn in near real time.

10 Ways to Encourage Action with Engaging Content

10 Ways to Encourage Action with Engaging Content | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it
The content you put on your website has a major impact on user engagement and your search engine rankings. You want all of the content on your site to essentially solve a problem so that it’s useful for your readers. It should be informative, but also a relatively quick read since user attention spans are short. There is a fine balance to ensure this works and employing proper strategies, like those that an advertising agency such as Shout Agency would, is a necessity. Once someone is done reading articles on your site, they should want to buy something, read more, or contact you, depending on the goals of your content.
