Five Effective Ways To Make #ContentCuration Work On Your Blog

Five Effective Ways To Make #ContentCuration Work On Your Blog | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

Susan Gunelius does a great job of suggesting how to put to good use the content curation potential on your own blog site.

Here her first two recommendations:

1) Publish Editorialized Content that You've Curated:
It's important to understand the difference between content aggregation, content syndication, and content curation before you can effectively curate content to publish on your blog.

2) Publish Curated Round-up Blog Posts:
You could publish a weekly round-up post where you share links and descriptions of great content from multiple sources about a specific topic. You can even add your own brief commentary with each link.

Good advice. Useful. Resourceful. 7/10

How to Use Google Analytics Effectively #analytics

How to Use Google Analytics Effectively #analytics | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

For any business with a web presence understanding how traffic works and where it comes from is incredibly important. Google Analytics is a free (and powerful) solution that provides a wealth of information about how well a website is functioning.

A business can use Google Analytics to determine how much traffic is coming to its website, where that traffic comes from, and what visitors are doing once they are on the site. Google’s tool works pretty simply by tracking “tags” – a small piece of JavaScript code that needs to be installed on every page of a business’ website.

The tag effectively pulls data and collates it within a reports page in the Google Analytics admin interface. Here, a business can set up multiple reports for multiple websites within a given account.

Let’s consider Google Analytics in some more depth and how it could benefit your business and its understanding of traffic sources to its website.

Very useful infographic summarizing the problems with content that isn't being shared and how to solve that problem.  I like the good practical tips for creating more "emotionally charged" content.   The other main points:

  • Lack of emotional appeal – people share content that generates curiosity, amazement, interest, astonishment, uncertainty, admiration and humor.
  • Not “Share Worthy” – people want to share it, it’s easy to share, it provides value, and it’s going to draw attention to those who share it.
  • Bad Timing – find the times of the day, week, season or event that the content is in demand and popular.
  • Poor Design – the layout, colors and visual appeal matters when it comes to sharable content. An investment in design is an investment in the likelihood it will be shared.
  • Poor Distribution – this is probably the one we see least deployed… distribute and promote your content across sites where it’s going to reach a large audience.

Love #1. It is the power of the stories we tell ourselves that determine who we become.

"1. Remember self-doubt is a story.

As Davidson said, thinking you’re not good at something doesn’t make it true. Her art teacher triggered her self-doubt, but it was the stories spinning in Davidson’s mind that stopped her from creating. And these disempowering tales were clearly distorted."

Forrester thinks Content Marketing Isn’t Working – They’re Half Right

Forrester thinks Content Marketing Isn’t Working – They’re Half Right | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

It’s a fair characterization to say that the state of today’s content marketing in B2B circles is a mixed bag. More specifically, there’s a great deal of bad content out there (especially on social media), and many companies who haven’t quite figured out yet how to best leverage the content they have.

Even then, the data from Forrester’s own study seem to suggest that the results from content marketing aren’t quite as downbeat as the Ad Age article would suggest (though I accept that bad news makes for more compelling reading.) For example, in answer to the question “During the past 12 months, how effectively have your content marketing efforts delivered business value?”

• 51% responded “somewhat effectively”
• 14% responded “very effectively”...

How to Use Persona Empathy Mapping | UX Magazine

How to Use Persona Empathy Mapping | UX Magazine | Content Creation, Curation, Management | Scoop.it

Empathy: it’s a buzzword in the UX design world. Everybody’s doing it! But what exactly are they doing? There isn’t a quick “Empathy Filter” that we can apply to our work or our team, no formula to pump out results, and no magic words to bring it forth. There is, however, a simple workshop activity that you can facilitate with stakeholders (or anyone responsible for product development, really) to build empathy for your end users. At Cooper, we call it Persona Empathy Mapping.

Yet another way to find out details about users in a very creative and practical way. The empathy mapping workshop from Cooper reminds us how important it is to consider "context" in our design work. This is an activity that may cost a bit of time and effort, but when it is well done, it delivers great insight for any design team.
