About

I was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England and raised in both Great Britain and the United States of America. At age 2, I lost my hearing and was declared profoundly deaf. One of my earliest works, "Being Deaf," was published in an anthology of poetry in 1995. When I was 21 years old, I received my first playwriting opportunity with Kali Theatre Company in London when they staged my one-act play, Chess for Asian Punks, Greek Losers and Dorks. I studied at University of Missouri and London Film Academy, having received a B.A in Theatre and a Certificate in Filmmaking respectively. In 2009, one of my plays, How the Rapist was Born, was produced at Tristan Bates Theatre in London. The play received a second production at East 15 Acting School in Essex. I was also the face of S.O.S Records, an underground Los Angeles streetpunk label, and have often been linked to the Taqwacores scene. My images can be seen in the 2008 documentary Taqwacore.

The following year, I wrote, directed and produced my first film, Wedding Night, a contemporary narrative short film that explored arranged marriages in Indian-Pakistani culture. The film was screened twice to a sold out audience in New York City, along with additional screenings in India, UK, and Canada in 2011. I have been shortlisted for the Chris Al-Aswad Award and featured in Roger Ebert’s newsletter, who praised one of my comedy videos, Allah Save the Punk! It is one of my most popular videos. It was translated into French and screened at the 2011 Festival des Cultures d’Islam in Paris, France for the Taqwacores exhibition. Many of my videos have been screened in India, Austria, Germany, and United Kingdom, including the world’s largest streetpunk festival, Rebellion in 2011.
