Works with plastic garbage to see its relationship in nature. Investigates the evolution of nature, her words. The inside and outside works with inflated grocery sacks are epemeral and delightful. Almost makes you forget what the impact of too much plastic in the environment is doing as they arranged and photographed in such a beautiful way.

Hunter Rion's curator insight, May 24, 2014 4:47 PM

Claudia Borgna's artwork addresses how modern life-style and consumerism are impacting our environment.

Lindsey Lindgren's curator insight, June 4, 2014 8:53 PM

Claudia Borgna studies and creates work that explore the "evolution of landscape." Her works demonstrates the consumerism and waste that is being caused from our society as a whole. She is juxtaposing waste produced within our culture and nature's beauty. In a nutshell she is taking waste and making it art.

Tiffany McAlister's curator insight, September 14, 2013 9:46 AM

While many artists use social issues and people to inspire their art work, how many of them actually affect the lives of the people that they are inspired by? Rio de Janeiro native, Vik Muniz uses his art to bring light to and effect the lives of the people he uses to inspire his work. Currently living in New York, Muniz has several pieces that have brought his critical acclaim while bringing to light the struggles of his subjects. For his Pictures of Garbage series he used residents of brazil who worked as “Catadors” or people who picked recyclables from brazil’s largest landfill. Muniz used the workers images to recreated classical works from the very objects that they collected in the landfill. Muniz’s goal was to show how overlooked yet critically important their role was in Brazils effort to cope with their massive amount of waste. To create his artwork Muniz employed the people depicted within his artwork and gave them a new perspective on their lives. He documented the journey from concept to actualization of this work in his film “Wasteland”.
