A Look at Women and Their Relationship With Mobile Phones

A Look at Women and Their Relationship With Mobile Phones | Consumption Junction | Scoop.it

Women really, really like their mobile devices. According to a new study from Time Inc. and Nuance Digital Marketing, 60 percent of women name their mobiles as the most important devices in their lives (significantly higher than men, at 43 percent).

Not only is their smartphone the first thing she looks at in the morning (for 78 percent), it consumes their free time throughout the day, when they use it for engaging with social media, texting and shopping. While this time spent on their mobiles would suggest opportunities to advertise to women, fully 91 percent of women dislike ads they consider intrusive.

eBay Acquires Shutl, Races Amazon To Your Front Door

eBay Acquires Shutl, Races Amazon To Your Front Door | Consumption Junction | Scoop.it

As consumers grow more accustomed to speedy online deliveries, eBay is hoping to exceed consumer demand. To accomplish this, the auction giant just acquired Shutl, a marketplace that uses a network of couriers to deliver local goods on a same-day basis.

According to Devin Wenig, president of eBay Marketplaces, consumption on the auction network has shifted strongly toward local purchases, probably as a result of eBay Now, a service released last October that lets shoppers order products from local stores and receive them in as little as an hour.

“Today, approximately 75 percent of what people buy is local, found within 15 miles from their home,” said Wenig. “Traditional retail isn’t going away. But it is transforming, and that creates enormous opportunity within the $10 trillion total commerce market.”...

Content Marketing & Curation Becoming Important For B2C and B2B Says New Content Marketing Institute Study

Content Marketing & Curation Becoming Important For B2C and B2B Says New Content Marketing Institute Study | Consumption Junction | Scoop.it
MarketingProfs and the Content Marketing Institute (CMI) have followed up their study of B2B content marketing trends with research into the emerging trends in the B2C

Via Martin (Marty) Smith
Deanna Dahlsad's insight:

I'm still not convinced that curation is all that new or different than blogging or other online publishing activities. (Blogging is not dead.) Nor am I convinced it is the most important thing you can do in terms of marketing. (And just because "everyone is doing it" doesn't sway me either; like momma always said about if so & so jumped off a bridge...) But I don't think curation can be overlooked much longer. Curation needs to be evaluated for several major factors:

a) can it fit within your scope (Do you have the time & skill set? Can you do this in house or should you hire?)

b) purpose (to maintain existing clients/customers, to reach new ones?)

b) where would it fit? (Not all curation sites are the same; some are more suitable for products, brands, B2B or B2C reach, demographics, etc.)

Alessandro Rea's curator insight, October 17, 2013 5:28 AM

While B2B marketers are beginning to adopt B2C best practices when it comes to e-commerce, B2B marketers have traditionally invested more of their budgets into content marketing than their B2C counterparts, making it interesting to see how both sides measure up in this rapidly-growing area. There are many more similarities than one might expect.

Internet Radio Goes Mainstream - A New Infographic

Internet Radio Goes Mainstream - A New Infographic | Consumption Junction | Scoop.it

At the day job, we've been super busy prepping a major new study on Internet radio usage on behalf of our clients Pandora, Spotify, and TuneIn. We will be releasing all kinds of new data points over the next few weeks, but as we've just wrapped up presenting the data at Advertising Week in NYC, I couldn't wait to post this infographic our crack team whipped up summarizing some of the results.

The big takeaway--Internet radio is now consumed by the majority of online Americans. Yes, it seems like we all use these services, but this is the first time in history that we have been able to state that Internet radio listening is truly mainstream behavior.

Here's a look at the new mainstream:

Understanding Female Relationships With Greeting Cards

Understanding Female Relationships With Greeting Cards | Consumption Junction | Scoop.it

While Hallmark was run by a man — or men with a few “poor working girls,” and can be seen as The Man, you can’t deny the serious dedication the company had to targeted marketing. They spent oodles of dollars and gobs of time focused on what sold and who bought it — including focus groups of women. If women weren’t buying the charming illustrations of women in their dainties and picture-laden puns of underthings, Hallmark wouldn’t have made them.Let alone so many of them.

...So one has to at least include the probability that women’s adoration of the female form, our so-called bisexuality or ability to be more fluid in our sexuality, has been around for a long time and perhaps has as much to do with “sex sells,” sexist ads, and our culture’s consumption of pornography as the patriarchy does.
