Let there be boobs as Bonds complaints busted - Crikey

Let there be boobs as Bonds complaints busted - Crikey | Consumption Junction | Scoop.it

The Advertising Standards Board has nipped complaints in the bud and will allow Bonds to use the word boobs in its advertising campaign for bras, writes SmartCompany editor Melinda Oliver.

Bonds has been cleared by the Advertising Standards Bureau for its new “Boobs” advertisement, which roused at least 15 complaints after it launched in October.

The advertisement, which replaced the well-known Bonds logo with the word “Boobs” and featured images of women in bras and underwear, caused controversy for its use of the word.

The ASB board reviewed the complaints and ruled in favour of Bonds, noting the word boobs is defined as a colloquial term for women’s breasts in the Macquarie Dictionary.

The controversial campaign was designed to promote the apparel brand’s fresh offer of bras, which come in a broader range of sizes and fits. The company hired Clemenger BBDO to produce the campaign and invested in billboards, online and print advertising to promote it. At the time of launch, a spokesperson for the ASB said 15 official complaints had been made about the campaign.

BMC can't act on lingerie mannequins inside shops

BMC can't act on lingerie mannequins inside shops | Consumption Junction | Scoop.it

MUMBAI: There is no provision in law which allows the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to tell shopkeepers not to put mannequins displaying lingerie inside their shops, said civic officials.

"Mannequins, regardless of what they are wearing, can be seized only if they are kept outside the shop on footpath for encroachment of public space. But there is no law or rule that empowers the BMC to regulate what a shopkeeper wants to exhibit inside his shop," a civic official told TOI on Wednesday.

You Won’t Like These Lingerie Ads | Consumption Junction | Scoop.it

Now, a German lingerie label has found a way to channel anti-FB feelings and remind people what real emotion is all about.

Blush Berlin (not to be confused with Canadian luxury label Blush) paired up with the ad agency Glow Berlin to create the clever “Don’t Like Love” campaign to promote its bright new spring collection.

Lingerie News Round-Up

Lingerie News Round-Up | Consumption Junction | Scoop.it

Julianna Rae has put out an infographic about how many people are sleeping in the nude. If those numbers are true, I guess that means that the the 30 billion dollar lingerie market is due to the sales of playwear and daywear, not sleepwear. (Hmmm, maybe if they brought nylon and more vintage style nightgowns back...)

Deanna Dahlsad's insight:

Other news includes the closing of 18 Saudi lingerie stores.

A discussion about lingerie designer knock-offs.

A discussion about lingerie designer knock-offs. | Consumption Junction | Scoop.it

"No, we're not talking about the fraud of misrepresenting lingerie or other garments or using their logos and labels; but we're talking about cheaper versions of designer pieces.

...Fashion has had knock-offs since it began. And let's be honest; there really are few design innovations in fashion because the human form hasn't really changed. True innovations in textiles and structure are patented and protected. But the look and details can't be protected, not even the red soles of women's shoes. And, overall, they shouldn't be. For, like recipes, you can't protect something nearly anyone can come up with.  Or can become inspired by, such as vintage looks. (Heaven knows how much of this "inspired by the past" has played a part in fashion design history.)

Don't mistake this for downplaying the significance of designers or their work. But there are realities to be faced. And that includes, as Coral aka Treacle noted, options for garments and undergarments, including less expensive pieces and a wider spectrum of sizes and fit. Fashion as an industry survives by meeting the needs of all, not a (somewhat literal) slim few."

Deanna Dahlsad's insight:

I'm all about intellectual property rights, acknowledging and respecting one's work; but when it comes to the topic of "fashion knock-offs," I can't help but feel as if designers are judging consumers rather than appraising their own strategies
