A fabulous study on what's happening amongst women who are adopting the digital avatar. The findings indicate polarized behaviour. On one hand 82% are digital outliers or mainstream users who use the internet etc for mainly work or just about. On the other hand 18% take the digital engagement to the other extreme. From a presentation I attended on this topic, came to know that some of the top countries where you will find Digital Divas are Egypt and Saudi Arabia - interesting implications there !Will post more on this if it comes out in public domain. Moms have more sophisticated digital needs than others. They tend to own more smartphones. They use Search more often. They build communities digitally. A babycenter research report says that 73% moms talk to other moms before deciding and this is the greatest influencer. She also uses the smartphone to be social, more than other consumer groups. 33% moms use the phone to track health and wellness of the whole family vs 22% of the rest of the pop.

Recently WARC reported that Chinese women hold the online purse strings of their families. They are the ones fuelling the digital retail boom.

 

The China Internet Network Information Center surveyed 2,300 people across mainland China and found that 72% of married women say they are the decision-makers for their family's online shopping.

Some 79% of respondents reported that they paid using a third-party account balance, while 76% settled payments via online banking.

 

So whether shopping is offline or online, its women who lead the choices. Whether its the US or China, the market is really about pleasing the "digital divas."

Women in the US will control two-thirds of consumer wealth in the next decade.  Aptly called Digital Divas the women of tomorrow will reshape the markets. However...59% feel misunderstood by food marketers, 91% felt that advertisers dont understand them and 70% of new businesses are being started by women.
