I love end of year "best of" lists.  My own list is what I found to be the most powerful education related videos of 2013. They all, in some way, address the mind, heart, and spirit of education.  ...

How could you not want to dance after watching Kid President's Pep Talk? Hope you all dance into 2014 knowing that your students want to dance too.

The Independent Project is a result of a high school student's mission to create a school where students would feel fully engaged, have an opportunity to develop expertise in something, and learn how to learn.
Will Gourley's insight:

If we get out of the way. We stand to learn something from our students. How can you encourage reluctant educators that they will be more effective  when they act as a guide on the side rather than a sage on the stage. There's room for the entire class in the cast.

by Chris Friend and Sean Michael Morris Teachers don't teach; instructors don't really instruct. The lecture-based course fell out of favor years ago, and we know today to bring front and center the role students play in their own learning.

3 more reads through this and it might sink in.

Fact 1- Students need to be at the table  to negotiate.

Fact 2 - It is not guaranteed that the current regime is ready for them.

Fact 3- Change is inevitable. You can embrace it or be embarassed by having your head in the sand.

Fact 4 - Not all change is good, but hey! We were all young once too!
