Analog was the original sound 'format'; it's what humans were 'designed' to hear. Read this article by Steve Guttenberg on CNET News.

Samantha Cabral's insight:

Article talks about why analog consoles sound better than digital. Author is very opinionated and biased.

Gives good reasoning.

Some people believe that the purity of the music is being lost in digital recordings.

Julianne Cardinale's curator insight, November 4, 2014 10:10 AM

Some people feel that digital recording takes away from music rather than adding extra quality.

Samantha Cabral's insight:

This article talks about how a church switched its old analog console that they had for 10 years to a well needed new digital console.

The church discusses how much they love the digital console because it helps them sound great.

The church did have experience with both consoles but they do not have the credibility or give enough information about both consoles to decide which one is better.

The writer gives accurate information about both of the consoles, but he did seem a little biased while describing them.

Basically what you can find here are the differences between Analog and Digital mixers, it could be a reliable source since it is from the view of someone who has experience  using both of them.

Omar Ramirez's curator insight, September 14, 2014 5:34 PM

This article basically states an engineers opinion on how digital consoles have taken over analog consoles in the professional world. He talks about his experiences with both and how digital mixers have been around long enough to be reliable.

Taylor Johannes's curator insight, September 8, 2015 9:20 AM

I have always believed that analog consoles are better than digital, just because it's something I've always worked with and that digital can not be trusted when running live sound. But after reading this article, my views have changed. It turns out, I just wasn't that educated on digital consoles and by learning more about them, I see how digital is better than analog. Digital has many more features that provide the user convenience like the CentraLogic feature and saving your "scene".

I think people in the audio arts industry should read this article even if you already have an opinion on which console you prefer. Who knows, your opinion may even change!

Digital vs. analog audio: Which sounds better?

Even among audiophiles there's no consensus as to whether analog or digital sounds better. Read this article by Steve Guttenberg on CNET News.

Samantha Cabral's insight:

He writes how one might not be better than the other, it just depends on the person's preference. Even though he does like analog consoles, he is not biased.
The article could have gotten more in depth about both consoles to compare/contrast them.

Personal preference is the biggest part of this battle. I feel as though they are both just as good it just depends on the mood of the music. A love song would sound better recorded in analog while a club hit would sond better digital.

Jose Pedro Alegria's curator insight, September 9, 2013 2:03 PM

This article made me realize that its all about personal preference. Digital and analog both sound good. It's up to you, how you want your music to sound. I prefer analog but I'd have to acquire a big budget.

Analog Vs. Digital Sound Boards - How to Decide | Acoustics By Design Blog

Analog Vs. Digital Sound Boards - How to Decide | Acoustics By Design Blog | Consoles: Digital vs Analog | Scoop.it

For me, it's hard to decide on which to choose. As far as digital consoles, like it says in the article, they allow you to have presets for any show you do, which is something that I find very useful, especially for time when I have done theatre productions. You can also save those presets on a USB drive and use it on another console, which is great, especially if you're touring. However, I've used analog more than digital and it's safe to say I am very comfortable with it. The article made a good point saying that with analog consoles, all of the channels and settings are visible. On a digital console, you're constantly flipping through screen which can be a hassel. In the future, I do see myself using digital consoles, but I think it would depend on the show. - Sydney Tavares

Samantha Cabral's insight:

This article discusses which sound board to choose. They seperated it into three categories and wrote about which one is better according to the categories.

It did not seem biased, but there should have been more categories to help a person choose better.

Steven Blake Lawrence's curator insight, September 14, 2014 2:39 PM

This article is very interesting coming from a person that has manly worked on an analog for five years and very little experience with a digital bored it is shocking to see that other individuals feel the same way that i did comparing the two.

Omar Ramirez's curator insight, September 14, 2014 5:46 PM

This article explains about the top 3 factors when deciding which console to purchase. The factors are ease of use, price, and flexibility.
