Reason Seen More As a Weapon Than a Path To Truth

"For centuries thinkers have assumed that the uniquely human capacity for reasoning has existed to let people reach beyond mere perception and reflex in the search for truth. Rationality allowed a solitary thinker to blaze a path to philosophical, moral and scientific enlightenment. Now some researchers are suggesting that reason evolved for a completely different purpose: to win arguments. Rationality, by this yardstick (and irrationality too, but we'll get to that) is nothing more or less than a servant of the hard-wired compulsion to triumph in the debating arena."

Creativity, evolution of mind and the "vertigo of freedom"

Creativity, evolution of mind and the "vertigo of freedom" | Consciousness | Scoop.it

Darwin’s Pharmacy suggests that psychedelics were precisely a mutation in information technology that increased sexually selective fitness, through the capacity to process greater amounts of information, and that they are “extraordinarily sensitive to initial rhetorical traditions.” What this means is that because ecodelic experiences are so sensitive to the context in which we experience them, they can help make us aware of the effect of language and music, etc, on our consciousness, and thereby offer an awareness of our ability to effect our own consciousness through our linguistic and creative choices.

Quantum Consciousness: Our Evolution, Our Salvation

Quantum Consciousness: Our Evolution, Our Salvation | Consciousness | Scoop.it

The Indian sage Sri Aurobindo spoke of the emergence of superconsciousness in ever more people, and this, he said, is the harbinger of the next evolution of human consciousness. In a similar vein, the Swiss philosopher Jean Gebser spoke of the coming of four-dimensional integral consciousness, rising from the prior stages of archaic, magical and mythical consciousness. The Canadian mystic Richard Bucke called the new consciousness “cosmic,” and in the colorful spiral dynamics developed by Chris Cowan and Don Beck, it’s the turquoise stage of collective individualism, cosmic spirituality and Earth changes. For philosopher Ken Wilber, these developments signify an evolutionary transition from the mental consciousness characteristic of both animals and humans, to subtle consciousness, which is archetypal, transindividual and intuitive, to causal consciousness, and then, ultimately, to “consciousness as such.”

Psychiatrist Stanislav Grof summed up the characteristics of the emerging consciousness as “transpersonal.”

There is remarkable agreement among these visionary concepts. Superconsciousness, integral consciousness, cosmic consciousness, turquoise-stage consciousness, and consciousness as such are all forms of consciousness that transcend the divide between you and me, the individual and the world, the human being and nature. If these thinkers are right, this kind of consciousness will be the next stage in the evolution of the consciousness of our species.

How The Consciousness Shift May Be Affecting You

How The Consciousness Shift May Be Affecting You | Consciousness | Scoop.it

"This shift is being catalyzed by an increase of Divine Evolutionary Light pouring into Earth’s atmosphere. This light is the force behind all evolution throughout the universe… the process of every created thing unfolding its full divine potential and moving up the ladder of consciousness. We are currently experiencing a long, sometimes rocky transition into this higher state… a phase that may be likened to cosmic growing pains."  - via in5d.com

Questions: @ddrrnt asks, "does it seem like a 'Divine Evolutionary Light' to you?  Do you feel 'cosmic growing pains' or get the sense that you're moving up a 'ladder of consciousness'"?

The Evolution of Consciousness as a Planetary Imperative: An Integration of Integral Views (2008) by Jennifer Gidley

The Evolution of Consciousness as a Planetary Imperative: An Integration of Integral Views (2008) by Jennifer Gidley | Consciousness | Scoop.it

In this article I aim to broaden and deepen the evolution of consciousness discourse by integrating the integral theoretic narratives of Rudolf Steiner, Jean Gebser, and Ken Wilber, who each point to the emergence of new ways of thinking that could address the complex, critical challenges of our planetary moment. I undertake a wide scan of the evolution discourse, noting it is dominantly limited to biology-based notions of human origins that are grounded in scientific materialism.

Human evolution: Who are we becoming? | eman8 | Consciousness | Scoop.it

In 1974, American professor of psychology Dr Clare W Graves wrote an article for The Futurist magazine titled Human Nature Prepares for a Momentous Leap. Graves described an impending change in human consciousness that would be, in his words:

‘…the most difficult, but at the same time the most exciting transition the human race has faced to date. It is not merely a transition to a new level of existence but the start of a new “movement” in the symphony of human history.’

Quantum Consciousness

Quantum Consciousness | Consciousness | Scoop.it

When and where did consciousness emerge in the course of evolution? Did it happen as recently as the past million years, for example concomitant with language or tool making in humans or primates? Or did consciousness arrive somewhat earlier, with the advent of mammalian neocortex 200 million years ago (Eccles, 1992)?

How Consciousness Evolved and Why a Planetary “Übermind” Is Inevitable

How Consciousness Evolved and Why a Planetary “Übermind” Is Inevitable | Consciousness | Scoop.it

I haven't read this yet, but it's going on my list toward the top. -- Howard

"In Consciousness: Confessions of a Romantic Reductionist (public library), neuroscientist Christof Koch — “reductionist, because I seek quantitative explanations for consciousness in the ceaseless and ever-varied activity of billions of tiny nerve cells, each with their tens of thousands of synapses; romantic, because of my insistence that the universe has contrails of meaning that can be deciphered in the sky about us and deep within us” — explores how subjective feelings, or consciousness, come into being. Among Koch’s most fascinating arguments is one that bridges philosophy, evolutionary biology and technofuturism to predict a global Übermind not unlike McLuhan’s “global village,” but one in which our technology melds with what Carl Jung has termed the “collective unconscious” to produce a kind of sentient global brain:"

Spiral Dynamics: Evolution of Human Consciousness

Spiral Dynamics: Evolution of Human Consciousness | Consciousness | Scoop.it

Dr. Graves penned this article after approximately two decades of research on the evolution of human consciousness, more specifically, Spiral Dynamics. Graves believed that humanity as a whole was moving toward becoming a global tribe that wasn’t reminiscent of ancient tribalism, but rather, reflective of the development of collective consciousness.

The Stages of Consciousness Development

Dr. Graves stated that consciousness developed in seven stages, but later found that some of his subjects moved on to an eighth stage, which went beyond the seventh stage of psychological maturity. It was therefore concluded that the development of consciousness was an open-ended process, even though the prevailing eight stage system still holds forte at large:

Survival (Beige) - Where all the attention is focused on survival.

Tribal (Purple) - All about social relationships and maintenance of customs.

Egocentric (Red) – Explore personal identity and challenge tribal authority figures or belief systems.

Authoritarian (Blue) – In order to understand purpose of life and have security need to obey higher authority and rules.

Enterprising (Orange) – Awaken independence and achieve results while challenging authority and test possibilities.

Humanistic (Green) – Seek love and piece within through sharing and becoming useful in the community.

Integrative (Yellow) - Live free and explore what is life about while understanding that chaos and change are natural.

Neo-tribal (Turquoise) – Experience the wholeness of existence by becoming one with all things, and restore natural harmony and balance.

Duality and Nonduality -- homeostasis and the play of consciousness

Consciousness, thus is the homeostasis or the interchange process of metamorphosis or osmosis (information transfer) between matter (feminine polarity) and its environment (masculine polarity)>

The fundamental process of all life rests on a simple decision in Consciousness: Does the nondual relationship in homeostasis between theduality of the masculine and feminine principles support the absolute nonduality

Life It Self then, is the process of establishing and maintaining that absolute nonduality.

Existence (nonduality) can only BE because of Duality expressed as Masculine and Feminine Principles.

Evolution is the result of dis-ease (a masculine-feminine duality imbalance) and is the manifestation of this imbalance in form leading to mutation of thefeminine principle in an attempt to find absolute homeostasis with a changing masculine principle or environmental change.

The evolving human consciousness "out there" is the reflection (masculine principle) of what is going on "in here"(feminine principle) .. a chain reaction of fractal evolution - homeostasis between matter andenergy which obeys simple principles - a "both/and" situation.
