Red Bull Gives You a Business Strategy

Red Bull Gives You a Business Strategy | Connectedness | Scoop.it

... When most people think about the word story, they think about a narrative like “ Jack and Jill went up the hill.” Most of us have been taught that there are two basic kinds of story: fiction and nonfiction.

Metastory is actually a third kind of story. Metastory is story that is told through action. It is not a story that you say, it’s a story that you do. Every individual has one. And every company has one too.

The reason this is so important is that people are already innate storydoers themselves. They use the story of your brand or business to tell part of their own personal metastory. Put another way, people don’t buy products; they take actions that help advance their own personal metastory. As we grow up, all of us learn to manage our own metastory through our actions — the car we drive, the clothes we wear. All of these choices are components that we know people around us will use to piece our metastory together....

In the summer of 1982, thirty-six-year-old Austrian toothpaste salesman Dietrich Mateschitz boarded a plane for a routine business trip to Thailand, leading to the formation of Red Bull. The rest is storydoing and marketing history.

The concept of "storydoing" as practiced by Red Bull and others is in contrast to storytelling. it's an important distinction for business, marketers and storytellers. Recommended reading.

Barry Gibson's curator insight, July 21, 2013 10:11 PM

Mateschitz is a genius!! Certainly another way to think, market and advertise...love it.

Innovation Excellence | The Seven Essential Characteristics of Innovative Companies

Innovation Excellence | The Seven Essential Characteristics of Innovative Companies | Connectedness | Scoop.it
What makes for an innovative company? An innovation initiative is not enough.
Lori Marie Cuene's insight:

When a dedicated group of ACTION oriented DOERS have the green light to create and implement, things get done! Most businesses have a lot of creative employees with a lot of ideas. Some of those ideas are even relevant to companies’ needs. However, one thing that differentiates innovators from wannabe innovators is that innovators implement ideas. Less innovative companies talk more about ideas than implementing them!

'Mona Lisa of the North' Arrives in U.S.

'Mona Lisa of the North' Arrives in U.S. | Connectedness | Scoop.it
Like a reclusive rock star, Johannes Vermeer's "Girl With a Pearl Earring" rarely goes on tour—and when she does, she's met by a stampede of fanatical fans. That's likely to be the case when the painting, often called the "Mona Lisa of the North," arrives in the U.S. this month. "Girl" will be on view as part of a new exhibition, "Girl With a Pearl Earring," opening Saturday at the de Young/Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. On June 22, it moves to the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. And on Oct. 22, it arrives at the Frick Collection in New York. The last time the painting was in this country, as part of a 1995 Vermeer exhibition at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, lines circled the block.

Lori Marie Cuene's insight:

From the infamous Dutch painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle class life.Vermeer painted mostly domestic interior scenes. "Almost all his paintings are apparently set in two smallish rooms in his house in Delft; they show the same furniture and decorations in various arrangements and they often portray the same people, mostly women"
