Did you know libraries can facilitate learning for most, if not all, of these skills? Ask your librarian how he or she can help you instill these skills and values in your students.

Russell Taylor's curator insight, January 23, 5:40 AM

Seems to me that most of the key skills are covered here for the modern workforce, so why don't we see educational institutions taking a lot more notice of these and make the necessary investment?

The infographic above is geared to elementary students. Research shows that if we teach students about their brain, and about growth mindset and fixed mindset it makes a difference. Consider sharing this with your students and have them answer the questions. Some may find that they are holding themselves back based on their mindset. Students could share strategies that they use when they find themselves falling into areas of a fixed mindset.

Who Needs Rebels at Work?

Who Needs Rebels at Work? | K-12 Connected Learning | Scoop.it

#sBy Carmen Medina "I promise to read the book and make sure to keep it from all the people in my group. Last thing I need are rebels." The above is a genuine reaction we received from a longstanding friend about our new book "Rebels at Work: A Handbook for Leading Change [...]

Rehabilitating your Troublemakers. Corporate leaders may worry that Rebels at Work will create gangs of rebellious employees (cue Les Miserables). But the reality is rebels are already inside your corporate gates and increasingly unhappy. Many of them have the potential to become positive forces for your organization — to become good rebels. For that to happen, however, employees need different skills and managers need more effective ways of managing individuals who think differently.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, January 14, 8:08 PM

But rebelling is not just about rebelling. It is about changing the way things are done and the paradigm within which it is done. Retaining neo-colonial and patriarchal ways does not change anything.

Joe Boutte's curator insight, January 16, 8:12 AM

Rebels who still understand the vision of the organization and find new ways to stir the pot and innovative approaches to achieving the objectives are needed in every organization.

Est-ce que l'école n'a pas l'obligation de favoriser l'apprentissage de tous?

Lon Woodbury's curator insight, December 30, 2014 5:32 PM

This idea has been around a long time.  When I was an undergraduate, I had some friends state to me something along the lines of: "Now that I've finished my assignments, I can start pursuing my education."  The network of schools and programs for struggling teens started in the 1980s were based on many of these ideas, and so far as emotional growth along with academics, the emphasis was on helping the struggling students learn who they are and what they can do with it.  The motivation at that time was very much along the line of what the author calls learning.  Many of them are still doing that. -Lon

[Slideshare] Future of Learning and Technology 2020: Preparing for change

The education landscape of 2020 will be characterized by the blurring of boundaries. Learning anywhere and anytime will be commonplace in many different ways based on the ubiquitous and innovative use of technology. Our organizations face a duality of change—conceptual and technological—regarding the practices of education and learning. The practices of teaching, presenting and learning will undergo fundamental change as it responds to global, social, political, technological and of course, learning research trends. Will your organization be ready and prepared to take advantage of these seismic changes to education, learning and technology?
