What do you do when you have the biggest brand on telly and need a digital strategy of equal proportions? Handing it all over to a new digital company may not be your initial response, but that’s what happened when Wall to Wall and the BBC entrusted the online elements of The Voice UK to Telegraph Hill.

First, the stats. Our team of five was there from December, gathering content throughout the auditions and building up a pre-TX social media audience that broke BBC records for a new show. The highs, the lows, Matt and Sueleen, they covered it all.

That included more than 240 pieces of original video content, 4,000-plus tweets and an audience of 150,000-plus on Facebook and 195,000-plus on Twitter. There were more than 27 million online video views, of which more than 2?million were web exclusives.

Tom Thai, head of marketing and business development at Bluefin Labs, a leading provider of social media analytics about television, is well-positioned to observe the surge of interest in social TV measurement.

With consumer engagement with various forms of social TV exploding--last week’s “Social Bowl,” saw a five-fold increase in social chatter compared to last year--ad agencies and their clients are taking notice. “Behaviors are being created that just didn’t exist a couple of years ago, and which were quite small last year,” says Kate Sirkin, global research director at media agency Starcom MediaVest. “This year is the watershed moment.”

Social media marketing software company Wildfire released data highlighting the importance of identifying and engaging the most influential fans for a brand.

The data showed that sharing on social media campaigns generates a significant amount of earned media. For every "sharer," an average of 14 earned media impressions were generated. Sharing also seems to have a strong impact on page engagement as well. Brands that are especially effective at engaging sharers and advocates through campaigns create three times more likes, shares and comments on their pages than other brands.

The data also concluded that for every 10 advocates a brand gets to join their social campaign, 13 new people will engage with the campaign through clicks, entries, or other interactions.

L’iPhone, l’iPad et la tablette Androïd deviennent ainsi une télécommande augmentée. La social TV est un puissant marché quand on sait que 70% des téléspectateurs utilisent un écran devant leur TV.

Nielsen has launched a ‘hybrid’ version of its online video measurement methodology, to track how people consume and engage with online video content from all locations, including mobile devices.

Nielsen’s existing VideoCensus tool enables users to measure the size and demographic composition of audiences viewing video online, but only covers Internet activity from home and work locations. The new ‘all location’ tool captures streaming activity from every type of device and from access points outside home and work locations.
