15 Reminders for Every Improviser - Second City Network

15 Reminders for Every Improviser - Second City Network | Connected Management | Scoop.it

We all hit plateaus in improv. After you’ve been improvising for a while, you might not even realize you forgot some of the things that made improv magic for you to begin with. I teach improv– and while I remember to tell my students these things, I stopped living them. And motherfuck if I don’t wish someone had reminded me that they still applied when I was taking myself so seriously.

Karen Schmidt's insight:

... these reminders are true for anyone!

My top 3:

Agree to Agree: You can’t make other people follow this rule, but you can. And you know? You’ll be happier...

Fail with Confidence as Though You’ve Already Succeeded …And laugh when you fuck up. It won’t change anything

Go Away; Then Come Back... take some time off ... You’re not going to miss your “one big shot” or a “really important show.” The world won’t stop; people won’t forget you; you won’t lose your “buzz.”

The Connected Company

The Connected Company | Connected Management | Scoop.it

A lot of problems in business could be solved if we could align the interests of employees and managers with owners. Is there a way to get everyone to act like owners? The answer is yes – but not without changing the structure of your company in ways that might make you a bit uncomfortable.

Karen Schmidt's insight:

Dave Gray collected here some principles and examples of podular organizations - interesting read

Instant Project Visibility | LeanKit

Instant Project Visibility | LeanKit | Connected Management | Scoop.it
LeanKit is a simple, visual project and process management tool that allows organizations to easily visualize and manage the flow of their work, while collaborating with team members to consistently deliver results.

Online, Visual Project Boards

In LeanKit, you map your organization’s processes onto virtual whiteboards. On each board the process steps are represented as vertical and horizontal lanes. Cards represent work items, which team members update and move from across the board as they complete their share of the work.

Rather than having to ask for status reports, managers and customers can just look at the board. Board updates are visible in seconds around the globe and e-mail alerts and RSS feeds are available, so you and your team can take immediate action to resolve issues before they turn into serious problems.

Should Bosses Give Up More Of Their Power?

Should Bosses Give Up More Of Their Power? | Connected Management | Scoop.it
"The world of business is short on examples of big bosses deciding to split power. But with companies increasingly operating in different countries with different laws, cultures and demands,
Karen Schmidt's insight:

What do you think?

It's hard to let go of your power - to let go your ideas and see someone else bringing them to reality as they think is right. That's true for middle managers, but even harder for CEOs.

According to Walter Robb, Whole Foods Co-CEO, successfully sharing the lead as CEO boil down to a few simple elements:

They get along
They share a vision
They share similar professional values
They are both equally experienced (even if the specifics are different)

Accelerate! - Harvard Business Review | Connected Management | Scoop.it
Business management magazine, blogs, case studies, articles, books, and webinars from Harvard Business Review, addressing today's topics and challenges in business management.
Karen Schmidt's insight:

Kotter is bringing his 8-step leading change model forward to more agile change. For doing so he suggests

"... a second operating system, devoted to the design and implementation of strategy, that uses an agile, networklike structure and a very different set of processes. The new operating system continually assesses the business, the industry, and the organization, and reacts with greater agility, speed, and creativity than the existing one. It complements rather than overburdens the traditional hierarchy, thus freeing the latter to do what it’s optimized to do. It actually makes enterprises easier to run and accelerates strategic change. This is not an “either or” idea. It’s “both and.” I’m proposing two systems that operate in concert."
