In 2005, a small group of film makers set out with a dream to create a film rooted in the music of the streets. Not only has that dream been realized, it has grown into a global sensation that has touched the lives of millions of people around the world.

Thirst for Thinking Blog

Thirst for Thinking Blog | GEP Connected Learning for building global citizens | Scoop.it

Bill Lucas and Guy Claxton in their excellent book New Kinds of Smartmake the point that a common misconception about intelligence is that 'The mind and body are separate and truly intelligent activity is located in the mind.' Lucas and Claxton point out that our emerging knowledge about embodied cognition shows that the physical and the cognitive are deeply entwined.

'This blog is written by Derek Pinchbeck. He is the Head of Primary Years at Nanjing International School in China.  For the last 20 years he has been teaching in International Schools around the World. During his teaching career he has been fascinated by the question "How do we get students to think and create with what they know?" This blog is a collection of some of his thoughts as he strives to answer that question.'

What is Connected Learning | Connected Learning

What is Connected Learning | Connected Learning | GEP Connected Learning for building global citizens | Scoop.it

Connected Learning is an educational approach designed for our ever-changing world. It makes learning relevant to all populations, to real life and real work, and to the realities of the digital age, where the demand for learning never stops.

Learners are the focus: Specifically, developing lifelong learners with higher-order skills. We build on the basics: The basics are important, but not enough for youth to thrive in our rapidly-changing world. We connect three critical spheres of learning: academics, a learner’s interests, inspiring mentors and peers. We harness the advances and innovations of our connected age to serve learning: Just as earlier generations tapped the tools of their time to improve learning, we must do the same in the digital age.Making, creating and producing are powerful paths to deeper learning and understanding: Connected learning asks learners to experiment, to be hands-on, and to be active and entrepreneurial in their learning, recognizing that this is what is now needed to be successful in work and in life.
Global Education Project, Victoria's insight:

Have a look at the short video about Charles Raben to ssist in building an image of what connected learning looks like. The focus is on the learner as an active global citizen.
