One of the greatest misconceptions in education today is that certain teachers have a higher natural aptitude in technology than others.

This inspirational graphic sets out to disprove that notion and remind the audience that external skills are only a function of the internal dispositions that allowed them to grow.

This reminded me of what someone said about the difference between Facebook and Twitter (but regret I can't remember who):

Twitter is the place to go to connect with the people you WISHED you had gone to school with.

It works for me!

Just over a week ago, I attended a great conference organized by Ray Wang CEO of Constellation Research - I tweeted almost 2000 times - he'd gamified the tweeting and set up a leaderboard, so it raised my competitive instincts. it was interesting to see for myself what would cause me to send out so many tweets - it was a fascinating conference - and you scored more points with photos, so during the conference I learned to illustrate almost every tweet with photos. The psychology of twitter is still evolving.... as I am finding out myself as I learn to interact with this new medium

App of the Week: Post-it Plus brings Post-it notes into the digital age - GeekWire | Enrjtk Educatr | Scoop.it

"As someone who writes fiction for fun in my off hours, Post-it notes have been an integral part of my writing process. At some point in a story’s development, I usually end up covering a wall somewhere with a series of multi-colored notes that looks like something out of a crime procedural murder investigation.

The downside to all that is it’s hard to take all of the structure I put up on the wall and translate it into a digital format that travels with me while I’m using other tools to write the story itself. That’s why 3M created Post-it Plus, an app that allows people to use their iPhone and iPad to scan and digitize groups of sticky notes all in one fell swoop.

Users just open up the app, tap on the camera button,

Users just open up the app, tap on the camera button, and line it up with a group of notes. Once they take a snapshot, the app will separate out each discrete note from the image and save them all on a virtual board with the same layout that they had in meatspace."

We know today’s students will have to create their jobs, not look for jobs. They will compete with others around the globe. They will have jobs replaced by outsourcing and technology if their skills are easily replicated or duplicated.  To succeed, students will need creativity, communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and entrepreneurship.

They will need to be able to adapt to change, be resilient and able to work effectively in a variety of environments.

How to be truly happy at work, by Chris Gaborit

How to be truly happy at work, by Chris Gaborit | Enrjtk Educatr | Scoop.it

There have been many letdowns in my life and valleys along the way. I was promised promotions from managers that never eventuated, pay raises that I never saw, and opportunities that never came.

Today, however, I am so happy and where I wanted to be. I am financially blessed and in love with life. However, life was not always so happy. What are the keys to reaching your goals and being where you want to be?

1. Commit to give 100% in all you do.

From the first time in Grade 1 when teams and captains were chosen at school, I wanted to be the captain. I have always wanted to be financially successful and be a leader. Maybe it is because we were so poor as a family that I had to ride my old bike every morning to the bakery to buy 20 cents worth of 2-day-old chook (chicken) bread, which we ended up eating, or maybe because we could not afford real milk or butter.

Growth mindset should be a philosophy in teaching and learning. Does it replace pedagogy? I don't think so, but I think they work together. Max van Manen's work in the area of thoughtful pedagogy fits well with growth mindset.

Tony Meehan's curator insight, September 20, 2014 4:57 PM

Working with learners of low SES and whose environment more often than not ensures they have a fixed mindset, it is important that we help them to redefine what success is. Too often it is fixed around being rich, having a big car, house, jewellery etc. These learners then become preoccupied with looking for the short-cut to success, to the riches they believe will make them happy. It doesn't work out like that of course. How then to help the alter their thinking?

Dweck's work is essential in this. But as this article states it cannot be seen as "a task to complete".  It requires a shift in thinking of all in an organisation, a movement for a whole-school way of thinking, involving also parents or carers.  This article by Costa, Garmston and Zimmerman provides a solid basis for promoting growth mindsets in educators.

Anna-Liisa Hayward's curator insight, September 25, 2014 3:08 AM

This article is not specifically related to ICT but it makes some points that all teachers need to consider: how to deal with change, how to grow as a professional, how to collaborate.

The Evolution Of The Employee

The Evolution Of The Employee | Enrjtk Educatr | Scoop.it

This concept and the visual was taken from my new book which came out today called, The Future of Work: Attract New Talent, Build Better Leaders, and Create a Competitive Organization.

One of the things I have been writing about and have tried to make clear over the past few months is that work as we know it is dead and that the only way forward is to challenge convention around how we work, how we lead, and how we build our companies. Employees which were once thought of expendable cogs are the most valuable asset that any organization has. However, the employee from a decade ago isn’t the same as the employee who we are starting to see today. To help show that I wanted to share an image from my upcoming book which depicts how employees are evolving. It’s an easy way to see the past vs the future.
