Jurgen Scheiber at Indiana University is a pioneer in the study of shale sedimentology, through his work showing that mudstones can form under conditions of hydraulic flow.
This website shows pictures of his experimental flume studies, and has links to youtubes of his experiments.
A common criticism of YEC sedimentology is that there has not been enough time in the YEC chronology to allow shales to build up by settling from suspension. Scheiber's work demonstrates that long periods of time aren't necessary for mudstones to accumulate.
