Google Maps fun--playing with Sea Level Rise

Google Maps fun--playing with Sea Level Rise | Conformable Contacts | Scoop.it

The updated HeyWhatsThat Map site allows you not only to play with different artificial sea levels, but also to add contour levels and even land cover if you want.

The above image shows the Grand Canyon area with red set at 1630m asl, orange at 1730m, yelllow at 1830, and blue contour lines at 200m intervals.  Really brings out the startling erosional features of the area.

Raison d'etre

Raison d'etre | Conformable Contacts | Scoop.it

In geological terms, a contact is the place where two different types of rocks come together. This ezine is a place to find content from my favorite web sources on the the creation-evolution issue, with a focus on the subject of geology.  Just as the layers of a rock can be composed of many different materials, so my sources often differ in their assumptions and in their views on the issue, but their common intersection is the belief that this is an important subject.

YEC Geo's insight:

While my interests are wide-ranging, as even a cursory glance at this site will show,  a subject of great personal interest to me is the preservation of biological material in fossils presumed tens to hundreds of millions of years old.  In my view, the increasing pace of discovery of such material is one of the strongest evidences in support of a young age for the earth.

Below is a continuously updated archive of articles I've found on the subject:

Experts explain origins of topographic relief on Earth, Mars and Titan | Conformable Contacts | Scoop.it

The surfaces of Earth, Mars, and Titan, Saturn’s largest moon, have all been scoured by rivers. Yet despite this similarity and the amazingly Earth-like landscapes of Titan complete with valleys, lakes, and mountains, researchers led by City College of New York geologist Benjamin Black report new evidence that the origins of the topography there and on Mars are different from on Earth.

Somehow, I missed the latest update on Armitage’s incredible work. In the January, 2016 issue of Microscopy Today, he published more results from his painstaking analysis, and they are truly amazing.
YEC Geo's insight:
This is truly the elephant in the living room.  While old earth evolutionists are debating the hows and whys of selection mechanisms and epigenetic transformations, creationists are finding original bone cells in dinosaur fossils.

Age calibration for post glacial maximum period

Age calibration for post glacial maximum period | Conformable Contacts | Scoop.it
In the past 20 years a number of studies have been published on the rise in global sea level since the last glacial maximum. The dates of the last glacial maximum and the change of sea level with time were based on long-age dating assumptions using a variety of methods, and fitted into the uniformitarian timeline.1 Given that the glacial maximum occurred toward the end of the post-Flood Ice Age, these curves allow us to develop an age calibration to convert secular, long-age dates into dates within biblical history.

Fossil wood in ancient lava flow yields radiocarbon | Conformable Contacts | Scoop.it

"When miners were sinking a ventilation shaft for the new Crinum Coal Mine in Central Queensland in 1993 (see map below) they unearthed a rare find. After digging through the thin surface sands and clays, followed by basalt, 21 metres (almost 69 feet) down they found pieces of wood entombed in the bottom basalt flow."

Volcanic eruption lives on in Aboriginal stories for 230 generations

Volcanic eruption lives on in Aboriginal stories for 230 generations | Conformable Contacts | Scoop.it
Dr Cohen's exploration of local histories from the Gugu Badhun people uncovered a recording, made in the 1970s, of an Aboriginal elder discussing an event that sounds very much like a volcanic eruption.

The elder described a time when a pit was made in the ground with lots of dust in the air, and that people got lost in the dust and died.

He also described an occurrence when the earth was on fire along the watercourses.
