Engagement is not a goal it's an outcome

Engagement is not a goal it's an outcome | מחשבים וחינוך | Scoop.it

You often hear people talk about how technology is so “engaging” for kids. But that misses the point. It’s not the technology that’s engaging, it’s the opportunity to use technology to create something that is valued by the community and by yourself. Yes, a new device can be entertaining for a while, but when the novelty value wears off, what are you left with?

Digital distraction in the classroom

Digital distraction in the classroom | מחשבים וחינוך | Scoop.it

Even in this ideal environment, the temptation of digital distraction was too high. I might view this akin to addictive behavior now, and realize that students need more explicit support in order to do the right thing for their learning. I think that the biggest mistake that I made was to fail to have explicit guidelines for use of technology

First Class Ice Breakers Using Mobile Devices

First Class Ice Breakers Using Mobile Devices | מחשבים וחינוך | Scoop.it

All of my classes, regardless of student age or demographics – elementary gifted students or graduate students, begin with ice-breakers and team-building activities. I recently developed a passion for using students’ mobile devices to do so as this devices have become natural and personalized extensions of students’ “selves.”

Assessment tools for a flipped or blended class

Assessment tools for a flipped or blended class | מחשבים וחינוך | Scoop.it

I am designing a class that I am going to teach next year. It is going to have elements of being flipped or simply blended. In any case, I am looking into different ways in which I can assess student learning that goes on during semester, whether in the classroom or out.

Crowdsourcing in Your Classroom | Thoughtful Learning

Crowdsourcing in Your Classroom | Thoughtful Learning | מחשבים וחינוך | Scoop.it

By Smith

"How can you shift your classroom away from lecture and toward inquiry? You can get help from the modern phenomenon known as crowdsourcing—the practice of putting many minds to work on a single problem. Inquiry is, in effect, crowdsourcing in your classroom.

"The following four concepts from crowdsourcing can help you use more inquiry in your classroom."
