Thanks to the glorification of Silicon Valley riches and a desire to inspire more of the next generation of children to pursue science and technology careers, computer coding instruction for children is spreading like wildfire around the United States. Code.org...
A group of children on a playground, each kid clutching a slip of paper with a number on it, moves along a line drawn in chalk, comparing numbers as they go and sorting themselves into ascending order from one to 10. Another group of children, sitting in a circle, passes...
What Cutting Edge Looks Like In A School Forbes What is so special is that through coding, kids can practice computational thinking which is basically a great way to build designing/prototyping skills in kids.
The truth is that not everyone can hack it as a computer programmer. It takes a unique set of characteristics to succeed in this field. We enlisted some programming pros to identify what it takes to hack it in this career.
If you have existing experience with organizing education events, you might just be interested in the main guidelines to follow when planning your #codeEU event:
Make the event beginner friendly, accessible even to those with no previous programming experience. Don't focus on the technicalities, try to show the fun and practical aspect of whatever technology is being used. The format of the event is up to you. We do however recommend to include at least practical, hands-on time, where participants can create something on their own. Even better if they can take what they've learned home to share with family and friends! You can use whatever tools and technologies you're most familiar with, although we do favor freely available open source tools and frameworks.Learning something completely new can be intimidating. A smile and a friendly atmosphere can help break the ice and make those, who don't consider themselves "technical", more at ease. It's also a good idea to plan a follow up. How can your participants keep learning? Who can they turn to if they have more questions?
Never organized an event before? Keep reading, it's not as difficult as you might think!
I wholeheartedly support the high-profile initiatives to get more children programming, especially as part of the rethinking of the ICT curriculum in UK schools. The publication of the Royal Society’s report Shut down or restart?
The composer still composes but also gets to take a programming-enabled journey of musical discovery.
Non-specialists may be disappointed that composition includes seemingly arbitrary, uninspired formal methods and calculation.c What we shall see here is that calculation has been part of the Western composition tradition for at least 1,000 years, This article outlines the history of algorithmic composition from the pre- and post-digital computer age, concentrating, but not exclusively, on how it developed out of the avant-garde Western classical tradition in the second half of the 20th century.
