Although music theory is important and necessary, students need to experience music in multiple ways, including playing instruments and exploring. Exploring with the few notes they know is a good thing! Skill and drill can only go far in terms of creating that awesome aesthetic experience.

Common Core can be successful in the music classroom. As music teachers, we should want higher order thinking to take place in our classes. CCSS will help us do this. I assume that creating/composing music will be a big part of this when the music standards are out.
