The Padagogy Wheel

The Padagogy Wheel | Complexity thinking and learning | Scoop.it
Alan Ovens's insight:

The revised Bloom's taxonomy continues to be a popular way of conceptualising learning. It's problematic for me in as much as it promotes learning as acquisition of knowledge and doesn't include any aspect of embodied action such as performance or resilience. However, in presenting the taxonomy in a circular form the diagram enables recognition that learners engage different cognitive activities in the process of learning.

I am always concerned when I go to a conference that it such an old fashioned way to present information. I have always thought that it must be possible to 'front-load' the presentation somehow so that anyone interested in the session can come along prepared or follow it up afterwards.  This site explains and demonstrates some people who are already doing this.

Alan Ovens's insight:

Really interesting to rethink the concept of learing from a rhizomatic perspective.  Too often our deep assumption is that learning is the acquisition of something that is transmitted to us from the teacher.  Complexity challenges this idea, particularly in the sense of uncertainty and reorganisation of the system to embody its history and attune itself to its environment.

ICT For Educators: Integrating technology in PE

ICT For Educators: Integrating technology in PE | Complexity thinking and learning | Scoop.it

" I recently had the opportunity to join our PE team at a PD hosted by Jarrod Robinson http://thepegeek.com/about/ ; - also known as the PE Geek http://thepegeek.com/ ; - on integrating technology into PE. Jarrod introduced us to a number of great tools and resources to help PE teachers make better use of technology in their lessons. As he pointed out, professional coaches have long been using cutting edge technology to train athletes and mobile devices now make it possible for anyone to access these kinds of tools at a fraction of the cost and with much greater ease. Our PE teachers enjoyed the practical, hands-on focus of the PD and have already started implementing what they have learned into their classes."

Isnt this just automating what good teachers already do? I think con best thing about this is are the concerns raised at the start about student privacy and how their data may be used.  I,owner one, detest simplistic evaluations of me which then have major implications about what I can do and learn.  If the system helps, then good.  Otherwise, ijust becomes another means of control.

This system consists of four levels: Redefinition, Modification, Augmentation, and Substitution. Let us now have a look at what these terms mean starting with the least important and moving up to the most important :"
