Shine's - Best Skirt for Every Body Type is way off. Who's giving you #fashion & #style advice

Shine's - Best Skirt for Every Body Type is way off. Who's giving you #fashion & #style advice | Compendiums | Scoop.it

The Best Skirt for Every Body Type
By Gina Marinelli, Refinery29
" the most flattering skirt has nothing to do with whether or not you have a tan - the trick is in the perfect fit. ..
Breaking down the most common body types, we went searching for the best silhouettes to complement your body. From those with the leggy stature of Karlie Kloss to others who have curves that rival an Italian Renaissance muse, you'll find the perfect shape in these 10 skirt types that'll make you feel like a million. So, break out the tights, if necessary, but trust - you'll want to keep these pieces around all season long."

Bonnie Sandy's insight:

Both Designers and consumers need to truly understand fit on REAL women. The advice in the Yahoo article will NOT serve most women, especially those above size 10.

Every Body is Different How to Select your Natural Style even at #Retail.

I get so many questions on FIT. While working with young  designers I realized many had a hard time coming  to terms with  who they  really needed to dress. One literally  cried when she realized that  her sizing stopped at  10 but  90% of her customers were size 12 and above. I know some experienced designer who STILL do not  "get it" and wonder why they  are not selling.

To the  consumer:- If buying "off-rack" is your only option,  I suggest taking  items to be customized to suit your figure. Speak up  if  it's in your closet and you cannot wear it, the label needs to  know.

I'll have geneal  article on the blog and more detailed "how to's'  for members.

#fintech Barclays Accelerator is coming to New York. Applications open March 2nd. | Compendiums | Scoop.it

Barclays Accelerator is coming to New York.
Applications open March 2nd.

Barclays launches fintech accelerator program in New York Barclays and Techstars plan to launch their flagship Accelerator program in New York, following its resounding success in London; ten companies will have the chance to shape the future of financial services. The Barclays Accelerator, powered by Techstars, will open in New York in July 2015. The program will provide the opportunity for ten companies to participate in thirteen weeks of intensive networking, mentoring and development, aimed at supporting breakthrough financial technology innovations. The first Barclays Accelerator program ran in London last year. A range of innovative fintech ideas were developed, including a new credit scoring system, a new money management tool to help people regain control of their finances, and an analytics platform designed to help companies manage risk and reputation. At Barclays we recognize that innovation will not solely be driven from within our organization so we are actively embracing the opportunities and expertise of the startup ecosystem. Our accelerator enables us to help translate emerging technologies into what could be the future of financial services” said Derek White, Barclays Chief Design and Digital Officer. “Our goal in New York is to help innovators develop new disruptive fintech technologies, particularly in the investment banking, wealth management and credit cards industries. We’re thrilled that we are able to extend our program to New York, a hub for global finance, building upon the successes we have already seen in London.” The ten companies will be based at new, custom-built premises in Manhattan when they join the program in July. The companies will also have access to a catalogue of Barclays APIs and data to help them build and refine their business models. The program will culminate with a Demo Day in October, when the companies will have the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to industry leaders. “Through this expanded partnership with Barclays, we’re able to build on the successes of our London accelerator program, now in its second year, by bringing the same level of fintech innovation to New York City,” said David Cohen, Founder and Managing Partner, Techstars. “Companies joining the New York program will have the opportunity to leverage not only the Barclays network but also the vast fintech community that we’ve been building for the last two years.” From March 2 until May 1, 2015, entrepreneurs and start-up companies worldwide will be able to apply for a place on the program by visiting www.barclaysaccelerator.com. The program will begin in July 2015 with the Demo Day scheduled for October.ENDS About Barclays Barclays is an international financial services provider engaged in personal banking, credit cards, corporate and investment banking and wealth management with an extensive presence in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. Three CUNY Colleges awarded $4.6 Mil to Fuel #NYC's Media Technology Industry: Joint Effort Will Create Jobs and Start-Up Companies #startupdiversity

New York, NY – (July 29, 2014). Three City University of New York (CUNY) campuses – Macaulay Honors College, Hostos Community College and Lehman College – have joined forces to create a New Media Jobs Incubator and Innovation Lab. The inter-campus project will lead to the creation of new businesses and a diverse employee candidate pool, ready to work in New York City media companies.

The three campuses were awarded a total of $4.6 million dollars to launch the Jobs Incubator and Innovation Lab as part of Governor Cuomo’s CUNY 2020 initiative. The Governor’s initiative awarded eight highly competitive grants totaling $55 million to CUNY campuses that demonstrated how their programs will successfully connect academic excellence to economic development to create more jobs by the year 2020. The Jobs Incubator will offer professionally focused, project-oriented workshops and business development training to promising student entrepreneurs, helping them build projects and start businesses that serve local and regional communities. The Innovation Lab will provide access to expertise and opportunities required to launch the best ideas on a much larger scale. The rigorous academic program, which will offer an honors track and will specifically recruit a more diverse student body, is expected to graduate 200 candidates per year by the fifth year of the program.

Interested in #journalism- It’s time to apply for a visiting Nieman Fellowship

Interested in #journalism- It’s time to apply for a visiting Nieman Fellowship | Compendiums | Scoop.it

"It’s time to apply for a visiting Nieman Fellowship- The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard wants to hear your idea for making journalism better. They're inviting you to spend a few weeks working on it in Cambridge.

http://www.niemanlab.org/2014/07/its-time-to-apply-for-a-visiting-nieman-fellowship /
the deadline for applying is Aug. 29. You can propose a stay at Nieman of up to 12 weeks, either later this year or in 2015.
Who should apply?
Applicants need not be practicing journalists, but must demonstrate the ways in which their work at Harvard and the Nieman Foundation may improve the prospects for journalism’s future. This may be related to research, programming, design, financial strategies or another topic. U.S. and international applicants are welcome.

Those who should consider applying include publishers, programmers, Web designers, media analysts, academics, journalists and others interested in enhancing quality, building new business models or designing programs to improve journalism. The proposed project may be completed during the time spent at Harvard or be part of a larger undertaking. All visiting fellows are expected to be in residence in Cambridge during their study and present their findings to the Nieman community at the end of their research period.
How is this different from the other Nieman Fellowships?
The Nieman Foundation selects 24 U.S. and international journalists each year to study for 10 months at Harvard, with work organized around the academic calendar. Fellows engage in work both at the university and at the Nieman Foundation designed to enhance their expertise in specific subject areas and enhance their skills as journalists and as leaders.

The Nieman Visiting Fellowship is designed for individuals who are working on shorter-term projects or inquiries who may not be able to spend an academic year at Harvard; who may or may not be journalists; and whose work in support of journalism or journalism models would benefit from concentrated exposure to the assets of Harvard and the Nieman Foundation.
