Look at this headline. The most blatantly NEGATIVE (and stereotyping) word choices to 'compliment' the Olympic Gold Medal winner Gabby Douglas!

"Gabby Douglas' gold medal smile belies her fierce, cold-blooded competitive desire"

I haven't heard the words "fierce" and "cold-blooded" to describe other athletes. "Cold-blooded"!?

and the work "assassin" is used to describe her in the article.

She's a 16 year old girl!

Gaslighting - Wikipedia

Gaslighting - Wikipedia | Community Village Daily | Scoop.it

"Psychologist Martha Stout states that psychopaths frequently use gaslighting tactics. Psychopaths consistently transgress social mores, break laws, and exploit others, but are also typically charming and convincing liars who consistently deny wrongdoing. Thus, some who have been victimized by sociopaths may doubt their perceptions."

"Mr. Romney apparently measures people's worth by their salary. And apparently he would rather not take responsibility to help his neighbors, so he labels them as inferior. And no he's not racist - he's just thinks some cultures are better than others." -Glenn Robinson

Manhood, Mental Illness, and The Colorado Massacre by Kevin Powell

Manhood, Mental Illness, and The Colorado Massacre by Kevin Powell | Community Village Daily | Scoop.it

"When you look at the massive media coverage of the Aurora theater shooting, you could easily be watching the same coverage of Fort Hood, or Virginia Tech, or Columbine, in Colorado, way back when Bill Clinton was president.

What we gloss over or completely ignore is that there is something profoundly wrong with how we define manhood in America. The definition is as old as this nation. And we know that definition begins with immigrant men from Europe ransacking the land of Native Americans and enslaving Africans. And that definition of manhood means the long American journey has been one riddled with men and boys who think it their birthright to use brute force to achieve their ends.

...And it is called mental illness, y’all, for what else are violent behavior but the work of someone, well, who is simply not well?

...we males, particularly, have not been socialized or encouraged to discuss our true feelings.

Most men do not go to therapy, and never will. Men are taught to be “strong,” to hold back emotions, to talk little about our internal struggles."

Code Words of Hate

"When people acting as "experts" or "commentators" on the immigration debate demonize Latino immigrants, either legal or illegal, as a dangerous threat to American society or as subhuman and inherently inferior, they follow a tragic historical pattern which, time and again, has led to extreme civil rights abuses in American history.

Such labels are used to justify extreme action, sometimes even genocide, since the people using those labels claim that the "larger public interest" is at risk. Further, if a group is widely accepted as "inhuman" or "inferior," it allows the rest of society to suspend its normal standards of right and wrong in judging actions taken against the target group."

Police Brutality in Anaheim Sparks Outrage After 2 Latinos Shot Dead and Demonstrators Attacked | Democracy Now!

Police Brutality in Anaheim Sparks Outrage After 2 Latinos Shot Dead and Demonstrators Attacked | Democracy Now! | Community Village Daily | Scoop.it

"Police in the California city of Anaheim are facing allegations of murder and brutality after fatally shooting two Latino men over the weekend and firing rubber bullets at crowds of protesters. On Saturday, Anaheim police shot and killed 24-year-old Manuel Diaz after he reportedly ran away from a group of officers who confronted him in the street. Diaz was unarmed. Hours after his death, a chaotic scene broke out when police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at a crowd of local residents protesting the shooting. Another Latino resident, Joel Acevedo, was shot dead by police the following day. Police say Acevedo was suspected in a car robbery, but the circumstances around his death remain unconfirmed. We discuss the situation in Anaheim with Gustavo Arellano, editor of the alternative newspaper, OC Weekly, and Theresa Smith, who has worked with families to call for police accountability in Anaheim since 2009, when officers shot and killed her son, Cesar Cruz, a 35-year-old father of five. "Given the fact that this is the eighth officer-involved shooting within one year in the city of Anaheim ... the community is going to be very upset," Arellano says. "There’s a lot of angry residents, and rightfully so." [includes rush transcript]"

"Crystal Ventura, a 17-year-old who witnessed the shooting, told the Register the man had his back to the officer. She said the man was shot in the buttocks area. The man then went down on his knees, and she said he was struck by another bullet in the head. Another officer handcuffed the man who by then was on the ground and not moving, Ventura said." http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2012/07/21/officer-involved-shooting-reported-in-anaheim/#at_pco=cfd-1.0

Members of Congress React to PBS Story on Border Abuses

Members of Congress React to PBS Story on Border Abuses | Community Village Daily | Scoop.it

“The latest PBS reporting shows that the problems with violence at the CBP are widespread and systemic,” said Congressman José E. Serrano (D-NY). “The need for a top-to-bottom review of CBP practices and for increased training of their officers couldn’t be more clear. We must ensure the safety and well-being of immigrants and citizens near the border and in custody. Most of those who are detained have done little more than cross a border—they shouldn’t be treated like violent criminals or worse.”

This is a documentary about the plight of the illegal migrant, the vanishing of the last American Frontier, and the collateral damage caused by our own actions, Because of its vast intricacies the border documentary is a mirror for all of humanity to peer into themselves and to show each other how we humans continually act.
