Students encouraged to get Cooking on Campus - Community Friends & Networks Programme - University of Tasmania, Australia | CFNP South | Scoop.it

The UTAS Student Engagement Leaders (SELs) through the Community Friends and Networks Programme (CFNP) are embarking on an exciting program aimed at engaging students in many different activities during the second semester.

One of the activities is Cooking on Campus, which aims to encourage students to eat healthily, interspersed with a bit of fun and enjoyment.

Kirsten Bacon, one of the SELs who facilitates this program, said “we hope to provide lots of different food experiences and provide an opportunity for students to meet new people and establish some great friendships and connections.”

Cooking on Campus in Sandy Bay occurs every second week from 4pm-6pm at the UTAS Accommodation Services.

All students who are interested in learning how to cook healthy, easy and affordable food in a fun way are most welcome. The program is able to accommodate 10-15 students per session. Bookings are essential to allow us to arrange enough resources in advance.

To find out more about CFNP upcoming activities, email community.friendship@utas.edu.au or like our CFNP South facebook page by following this link https://www.facebook.com/utascfnpsouth

Human Library 2013 - Communications & Media - University of Tasmania, Australia

Human Library 2013 - Communications & Media - University of Tasmania, Australia | CFNP South | Scoop.it

The UTAS Community Friends and Network Programme launched its "Human Library" at Bishop Davies Court aged-care facility recently and the theme was "Celebrating Diversi-tea as a Human Library."

About 20 international and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) UTAS students visited the residents. Many students chose to wear the traditional dress of their countries of origin, which prompted much admiration from the residents, who also dressed for the occasion by wearing Hawaiian leis.

The morning tea was an opportunity for the students (the human books) to share their personal stories with the residents (the readers). Through conversations, students shared stories about their homes, cultures and their experiences as UTAS students from another country. The aim of the Human Library is to bring students together to strengthen social inclusion, reduce isolation and build social connections within the local community.

Orientation Week Volunteers

Orientation Week Volunteers | CFNP South | Scoop.it

We are seeking students who would be available to volunteer some of their time to participate in one or more activities during semester 2 Orientation Week (8-12 July, 2013).   The  “Welcome Lounge” is a space where new students can talk to current students in a relaxed and informal setting and have tea/coffee and gather information resources.  This activity is good for students image from who don’t like talking in front of a large group, but enjoy socialising with students and making new students feel welcome.  The Welcome Lounge will be open on Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th July, with Thursday being the busiest day of Orientation Week here in Launceston.  If you’re not sure, why not put your name down for one hour to see if you like it.  All volunteer hours are officially acknowledged by the university, and is something that adds value on a Resume/CV.

Community Friends and Networks Program joins in local festive cheer

Community Friends and Networks Program joins in local festive cheer | CFNP South | Scoop.it

The University of Tasmania's Community Friends and Networks Program's recently joined the annual Hobart Christmas Pageant on Saturday, 16 November.

Almost 50 UTAS students, along with their families and friends, participated in the biggest multi-cultutal event in Tasmania wearing the traditional costume of their country of origin.

The students carried bright flags, each representing a story of how their country celebrates Christmas.

The central theme "sharing stories about our communities and cultures" is a great representation of how the CFNP's Human Library program connects not just within the UTAS but also into the wider community.
