The article clearly identifies the fundamental shift in IT and the importance of companies keeping up. This shift in technology means consumers are now demanding communication and information when it is convenient to them. "Employees want their business applications to be as easy to use as the consumer applications they download for personal use, and by providing an integrated user experience, IT can help make sure end users have consistent access to business information on the same devices they use for personal communication." Companies need to now change, adapt and create ways for customers to connect whenever and where ever while ensuring strict security is in place. The importance of communication between corporate and consumer also links to the consumer decision making process. When the consumer is searching for information, if it is not accessible when they want it, it may have a negative impact on the company as they will not be considered in the consumers purchase decision.
The most important is "integrating consumer devices and social collaboration tools while maintaining security and availability is a possible (and imperative) step in remaining competitive."
