Julie Kestler's curator insight, December 21, 2013 9:46 PM

I have a number of students with multiple disabilities I am trying to create meaningful opportunities for communication  throughout the day, not just when I am working in the classroom.  One of the best methods I have suggested to the classroom teacher has been to make visual representations of songs sung daily and let the student "choose" via eyegaze, reach, or some other mutually noted reaction the teacher and I have observed.  The classroom teacher has taken this suggestion and run with it.  Music seems to be highly motivating to the vast majority (though not all) of my students.  I am looking for more suggestions the classroom teacher can easily incorporate into her daily routine.

5 Things to Consider About Data Collection in AAC | Communication Opportunities | Scoop.it

Presuming Competence and Using the Least Dangerous Assumption | Communication Opportunities | Scoop.it
One of our core language posts from last month referred to the criterion of the least dangerous assumption (Donellan, 1984). This week we’re pleased to be able to expand on that topic and share a video by Dr. Cheryl Jorgensen, a former project director at the Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire.…
