Beth Dichter's curator insight, April 29, 2013 8:54 PM

"SAMR is a great framework for thinking about technology and how it can best be used in a teaching environment to bring about transformational learning opportunities that wouldn't have been possible without the technology."

If SAMR is new to you the letters stand for:
Substitution

Augmentation

Modification

Redefinition

This visual from Mark Anderson does a great job providing an overview of SAMR as well as transformative level activities. To go the actual link pdf: http://ictevangelist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/SAMR-flow-chart.pdf.

I cannot tell you how many tech opportunites i have been to where they talk about the power of Dr. Puentedura's model.

Sue Alexander's curator insight, May 3, 2013 9:33 AM

As our schools move to 1:1, BYOD, flipped or hybrid digital learning environments, this model gives clear guidance on the different levels of integration. Thanks to Beth Dichter's timely Scoop, I will begin my 1:1 journey with a clear pathway to success.

5 Excellent Web Toos for Creative Writing Prompts ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Common Core & Tech | Scoop.it

One of the best strategies to teach writing is to integrate art into it. You can for instance get students to work on drawing something and after discussing each one's drawings you can then ask them to use their own drawings to write a story. Another strategy is to use technology. There are now several free web tools that can help students get started on their stories.

Sandy Schmidt's insight:

This is a great article that I can relate to.  I am the only one in my planning group for my grade and subject that has 1:1, making planning very difficult.  When 1:1 you need to look at planning in a completely different way.  Thanks.

Can Music Aid Memory of Text? | Common Core & Tech | Scoop.it

This is a really interesting site that I spotted a little while back. The site was inspired by the late great John Cage, one of the most revolutionary composers of the last century.

Well I know these ideas are certainly on the borders of ELT methodology and I'm not convinced that they will all work for all or any of your students, but I would be really interested to hear how you get on if you try them.

First Week Back after Winter Break | Origins Online | Common Core & Tech | Scoop.it
After a long and restful time away, students are both eager and hesitant about returning to school.
Sandy Schmidt's insight:

This is a great reminder when starting to think about how to start up again after a long winter break.  So often we can forget how hard the transition can be for students to get back into the routine again after being home for a week.
