The tests will be given in 2014-15. The total cost is $29.50 annually per student for an English-language arts/literacy test and a math assessment — both to be given two times a year.
The current MCT2 test costs about $17 per year, while one Subject Area Test costs about $30. A typical 10th-grader would take English II, Algebra I and a writing test, costing the state more than $83 a year.
Education officials say not only do the tests, for the most part, cost less than Mississippi’s current MCT2 and Subject Area Tests, they offer a greater value in the way they test students.
