Visit the ELA Professional Development Modules page for some resources to help you learn more about CCSS.  To get started, check out Module 1:  Introduction which is intended to help all teachers, not only ELA teachers, become familiar with CCSS.Visit the Maine DOE ELA Resources page for links to instructional resources.What do the Common Core State Standards Mean for History Teaching and Learning? The National History Education Clearinghouse has shared thoughts and statements from classroom teachers and university professors. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s Disciplinary Literacy in Social Studies page includes several links to social studies resources. The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History offers sample lessons that align to CCSS.  View sample tasks and templates developed by Literacy Design Collaborative, to assist teachers in meeting CCSS and content area standards. Literacy Through Social Studies (PDF)

The National History Day program promotes the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, research and reading skills, along with oral and written communication and presentation skills.  Visit the Maine National History Day page.

A “common core” search on the National History Education Clearinghouse website will yield many resources. 

The Library of Congress provides strategies, resources and professional development modules for K-12 teachers.  The fall 2012 issue of the Teaching with Primary Sources Journal illustrates how primary sources can support teaching to meet the CCSS.
