Warning: Thor 2 And Iron Man 3 Plot Spoilers Aplenty

Warning: Thor 2 And Iron Man 3 Plot Spoilers Aplenty | Comic Books | Scoop.it

Andrew Lawden has recently been working for Marvel as an Iron Man cosplay artist, carrying off the live performances of the character at promotional engagements. I hope he didn’t like the gig too much, as he may have just gotten himself real fired, the poor chap.

Appearing as a guest on the curiously Gungan-themed Bombad Radio podcast (via Screen Rant) Lawden has been spilling some big Marvel movie spoilers. As well as confirming one of our previous reports, he’s gone much further.

Let’s boil down what he had to say about Iron Man 3, first of all, as that seems to be the least extensive of his spillage, at least in terms of key plot points spoiled. All of this information was gathered, it seems, from seeing presentations made by Marvel to their corporate partners at a trade fair in Milan.

Here’s Lawden’s account of what will be going down, most of which we sorta kinda knew, or at least suspected, before:

There’s going to be a big fight sequence with The Mandarin, who’s the main villain, which will involve none other than forty different Iron Man suits. There’s an amazing rescue where The Mandarin basically wants to bring down the American government and kill the President, and he launches an attack on Air Force One. All of the President and his men and staff get sucked out of the plane and Iron Man rescues them by forming this amazing human chain in the sky.

The best thing of all is Iron Man himself, Tony Stark, has an upgrade, which they’ve taken the storyline from the comics where he has this sensory thing installed so that basically he can manipulate the suit more with his mind. He points his hand or his leg at various parts of the suit and the suit just flies onto him… It’s like a form of telekinesis.

There’s an amazing sequence where he has this rooftop house that he builds to store all his Iron Man suits and it gets attacked by The Mandarin and these gunships. Now they’ve released the exclusive last week in Italy I think it’s about to go online this week the teaser trailer. I don’t think it will be as long as the one I saw.

There are forty Iron Man suits written into this feature in various ways… he needs this Iron Man army to go up against The Mandarin’s forces.

No huge bombshells there. No “Pepper is pregnant,” “Pepper gets killed,” “Pepper cheats on Tony with a reanimated Agent Coulson.”

Getting on to Thor 2, he hit on plot points that were much better hidden – at least until now.

Iceland is going to be used as a location in Asgard. Thor becomes reunited with Jane who becomes possessed by a Dark Spirit which is connected with the Dark Elves, a race that the Asgardians have fallen out with many years beforehand and what happens is that basically The Dark Elves attack Asgard, and they take a huge hit and so Thor has to rebuild Asgard by putting together an army to go and take the battle to the Dark Elves and defeat them.

But the only way he can do this is, is he needs to cross over to the Dark World and the only person who has access to the dark side out of Asgard is his old brother Loki, who at the beginning of the film is locked up in prison, because at the end of the end of The Avengers we see him taken off to Asgard to prison.

So what happens is Thor basically has to negotiate this truce with Loki and he goes on this great trek with Jane, all three of them, they go to this far side of Asgard which is being shot in Iceland, where they train and assemble an army to go and attack the Dark Elves’ world which, nterestingly enough, a lot of it being shot here in Britain. A lot of the historical locations of Britain as the Dark Elves’ world… more of the sort of old buildings of London so it has that very sort of Gothic feel.

One of the things that happens during the Asgardian attack is that Thor’s mother gets killed so it becomes like a vengeance thing. And they were keeping very tight-lipped about what actually happens with Loki. You don’t know whether he redeems himself or he’s still the bad egg.

So it would seem that the footage being shot at Greenwich’s Old Royal Naval College over this last few days was for part of Thor’s attack on the Dark Elves, and the footage of Mjonir flying around London is likely for footage of a Dark World fly-by.

Lawden also noted that Marvel may move Thor 2‘s release date “to October to be a Christmas blockbuster thing” but it’s possible, based on the context of his comments, that he was just be talking about the UK release. I also don’t think it will happen in any case.

I hope Lawden isn’t kicked to the kerb too bluntly by Marvel for his candid attitude and willingness to share his enthusiasm. He seems like a really great guy and I don’t think he intended to ruin anything or cross any lines he wasn’t meant to. Here are his comments on the spoilery nature of what he himself had just said:

It’s very interesting that they released all this at this Marvel Disney trade fair in Milan, but as you can imagine, I was finding bits and pieces of it had been trolled all over the internet. They deliberately put it out there for a reason.

This takes us up to the thirteen minute mark of the podcast, and after a minute or two more of not-so focused, possibly out of date Marvel chatter – ie. confusion over whether or not Ant Man will be released before or after The Avengers sequel – there’s over an hour left to drill into his experiences as a Star Wars stuntman.

Next time I see a guy in an Iron Man suit at one of Marvel’s events, I’m going to ask who it is inside, and if it’s Lawden, I’m going to shake his big iron hand. He just seems so… decent, and I think he could use some fan respect for just being so sharing.

Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 are due for release next year. The first full Iron Man 3 trailer is along shortly after midnight, PST. Stay tuned.

Is this like Stan Lee claiming he created The Hulk and The Fantastic Four all by himself? LOL. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby co-created most of the old marvel characters. One writer and one artist (penciller/inker).
