How to build great b-to-b social content in three steps :: BtoB Magazine | Learning Technologies | Scoop.it

Digest...

Here’s my take on three steps to generating successful social content from and for your community of customers, partners and influencers:

Discover. Use a mixture of listening tools like NetBase and Twitalyzer to conduct audience research (it usually takes more than one tool to get all you need). Always start by learning a) what is being talked about, b) who the most influential voices are, and c) where their virtual water coolers are found. You’ll learn the keywords of the conversation you want to join before you jump in, helping your message resonate with real customer pain points.  Create a scoring mechanism to prioritize the influencers who are most valuable to you. Then, find ways to engage in conversations with them.Empower. The real task is to get your internal experts (product management, designers, etc.) to talk to customers and influencers about how products are designed to solve business problems. It can be hard to get your experts to be on the front lines of communication.Publish: Here’s something that IS in the realm of marketing’s role in social media marketing—finding ways to highlight the most engaging content on your channels. You can link to popular blogs or discussions in your hosted community, or via Facebook posts, or tweets/retweets or LinkedIn comments. Feature links to your most popular blogs in your next monthly newsletter.

Building an Educational App? Read This First (EdSurge News)

Building an Educational App? Read This First (EdSurge News) | Learning Technologies | Scoop.it
Over the next four years, nearly a billion students will enter middle and high school, and if recent projections are accurate, most of them will have a smartphone in their pocket. These students will decide what apps they use and when they use them, and could potentially take large parts of their education into their own hands.

Despite this potential, there are few break-out apps that cater directly to students. The education app charts are led by games and classroom tools, and the largest student-focused apps—Duolingo, Quizlet, and recently PhotoMath—only serve a thin slice of student needs, leaving huge potential for new entrants.

We’ve spent the last two years at Socratic studying how students learn with the Internet. In hopes of inspiring the development of more student-focused apps, we’d like to share some of our insights about how students use their phones while studying today.

UDL and The Flipped Classroom: The Full Picture

UDL and The Flipped Classroom: The Full Picture | Learning Technologies | Scoop.it

Jackie Gerstein proposes an experiential flipped classroom learning model where she believes there a  great opportunity to change the predominant didactic model of education that is especially prevalent in upper elementary through graduate school education.

"UDL is a strategy, a process that provides opportunities for all students, not just those with special needs (but I believe all learners have special needs), to be successful learners. This is the same goal for the flipped classroom model designed as an experiential learning cycle.

This model has experiential learning at the core of the learning process with the content videos supporting the learning rather than being the core or primary instructional piece. Experiential learning is the process of making meaning from direct experience.. Simply put, experiential learning is learning from experience. Experiential learning can be a highly effective educational method[ It engages the learner at a more personal level by addressing the needs and wants of the individual. For experiential learning to be truly effective, it should employ the whole learning wheel, from goal setting, to experimenting and observing, to reviewing, and finally action planning. This complete process allows one to learn new skills, new attitudes or even entirely new ways of thinking. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experiential_learning)"

Thank you Jackie for your insight in creating this model where all learners can experience success!

The Digital Writing Process

The Digital Writing Process | Learning Technologies | Scoop.it

Now, with nearly 20 years of middle and high school teaching behind me, I still respect the writing process approach and its benefits. I also recognize that the nature of writing has changed tremendously over those two decades due to the significant influence of digital tools and sources. Of course, today’s composers still must meet the commonly accepted conventions of the genre in which they are engaged, but our visual digital culture creates different demands than did the primarily print text-based world.

UDL Guides Personalizing Learning to Meet the Common Core

UDL Guides Personalizing Learning to Meet the Common Core | Learning Technologies | Scoop.it

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is used to design curriculum, lessons and instruction based on the diversity of the learners in their classroom.

How can UDL guide personalize learning to meet the Common Core?

When a teacher understands his/her learners through the UDL lens, he/she creates a flexible learning environment and provides opportunities for learner voice and choice. When lessons are designed using the UDL model, the lesson includes goals, methods, materials, tools, and assessments to reach and support the maximum amount of learners in the classroom.

Learners can use this model to help them understand how they learn best and what learning path they can take to become an independent expert learner, leveraging their natural abilities in the process. This process helps the learner create their personal learning profile that is understood by both teacher and learner.

The importance of this strategy is that both the teacher and the learner understand who the learner is and how they learn best. The learner and the teacher uses the UDL lens to personalize learning. So what does that look like?

An example of an 8th Grade unit on the Civil War serves as an example along with two students who can meet a number of CCSS when they choose and use the tools to support their learning.

Explore our new website, Personalize Learning (www.personalizelearning.com), to learn more about the research, models and educators who are personalizing learning.
