Would this be a help or hinderance? Is it fair to place the financial pressure or having to purchase a new device for their kids on the parents?

Carolyn Wiberg's curator insight, May 13, 2013 4:51 AM

Putting the right team and right plan in place will be key in successful implementation of BYOD.  I'm still waiting to see how we will be able to solve the security issues in this environment.

But we were never quite sure how to bring our files with us especially when we are on assignments abroad or working away from the office.

Accessing files remotely or in the cloud meant we had to have a reliable Internet connection in the country we are in and that usually meant relying on our expensive and metered mobile data plan or internet connections in the cafe. Working with big graphics and photos also meant transferring huge files over the Internet is inefficient. We needed a solution…

How to Reference

How to Reference | ColourMyLearning | Scoop.it

When I taught in Tertiary Education, one of the biggest challenges, I and many of my colleagues faced was plagiarism by students across all years of their Undergraduate studies.

At the time, it seemed to me a blatant disregard for the intellectual property of the people from who they copied and an even greater disrespect for the work, effort and original thought that had been put in, in to the great volume of work available to them as references.

Top 5 Budget Smartphones

Samuel Tan's insight:

Back in the days when Android first entered the smartphone market, there were less desirable smartphones in the value segment. Most are seriously under powered and performed very poorly even as a phone. Early versions of the Android OS didn’t help in terms of stability and performance. On top of that, smartphone manufacturers add their own skin and customised apps on their phones, making it even slower.

But, things are very different now.

Top 5 Windows 8.1 Tablets

Top 5 Windows 8.1 Tablets | ColourMyLearning | Scoop.it

With Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch and flagship Kindle HDX 8.9-inch tablets, the overnight success of Google’s Nexus 7 2013 and Nexus 5 smartphone, what can we expect from tablets based on Microsoft’s OS. Since the introduction of Windows 8.1, there has been a surge of devices based on the new OS.

Microsoft has decided to drop the term ‘RT’ used to refer to the flavour of Windows 8.1 built for tablet with ARM processor. While Window 8.1 (32bit) or Windows 8.1 Pro (64bit) are still used to refer to its OS for tablet based on Intel x86 processors. This may cause some confusion among consumers but the general rule of thumb is if the processor is other than an Intel chip, it is bound to have the cut down version of Windows 8.1. Otherwise, tablets based on Intel processors would have the full version of Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 Pro.
