From those who nurse hangovers well into the next day to those who have a glass of wine with dinner, students vary widely in their drinking and drug habits.
Ed Mcgraw's insight:

As far as this article is concerned, 'smarter' students (honor) are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol more, mainly because they generally have larger class loads, more challenging classes, and heavier plates that may involve various organizations that make day to day life stressful. He said he's met with students in his office who are combatting addiction problems.
Ed Mcgraw's insight:

For starters, drug and alcohol abuse is a strong phrase amongst peole in regards to college students. We unwind at the end of the week, after exams,  and during homecoming week, some may do it in excess to have fun, but I cant help but stress that it's in response to the stressful situations that arise in college, and brought on by the pressure that society has placed on us. The officials in the above article are going about the issue without getting to the root of the problem, they know college students are getting addicted to these substances and using them without permission, but why? Why are they doing it?  They don't care about the deep rooted problems in the individual but rather how it affects the school's reputaion, and then the state's when a negative story goes public.

As the mother of a child who is finishing his junior year in high school, I am, like many parents in my shoes, in the throes of anxiety about where my son will go to college in 2015.
Ed Mcgraw's insight:

As we've seen recently. many college students have recently graduated and tried to find jobs within their intened major, only to be disappointed when they couldn't find anything, and realize all the cramming, all adderals and xanax were taken for nothing. But this epidemic is generally more common in majors that don't yeild a high rate or growing rate of employment. This causes more stress, more drug abuse, and America to fall.

Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem that cannot be ignored -- especially when the faces of young student athletes become attached to the issue plaguing college campuses nationwide.
Ed Mcgraw's insight:

With a lack of jobs for students and in college towns and very little devlopment in pre established college towns students resort to 'other' means such as selling drugs and taking them to cope with their lives'. I agree it is a problem but the solution isnt locking up young students and heavy fines, but providing jobs, ways to pay of college debt in other ways that doesnt haven't to necessarily be monetary.
