[Infographie] Barcamp, le mode d’emploi

[Infographie] Barcamp, le mode d’emploi | Collective2innovation | Scoop.it

Collaboration and Networks: Catalysts for Innovation

Collaboration and Networks: Catalysts for Innovation | Collective2innovation | Scoop.it
Access to experienced mentors, capital, customers and collaborators separate successful startups from those that fail. For startups, collaboration often takes shape in two ways: internal-facing activities and external-facing activities.

A méditer: automatisation de reconstruction de mécanisme complexe: Collaboratively Crowdsourcing Workflows with Turkomatic | Follow the Crowd

A méditer: automatisation de reconstruction de mécanisme complexe: Collaboratively Crowdsourcing Workflows with Turkomatic | Follow the Crowd | Collective2innovation | Scoop.it

"A central challenge in crowd computing is the workflow design problem: how can we divide a complex job — for instance, editing a paper or writing a computer program — into a sequence of microtasks that can be solved by a pool of crowd workers on the web? Effective workflow design is a difficult process, requiring careful task design, extensive software development, and iterated testing with a live crowd. The complexity of workflow design limits participation in crowdsourcing marketplaces to experts willing to invest substantial time and effort, and limits the kinds of tasks that can be crowdsourced today.

What if we could use the crowd to attack the workflow design problem itself? We present Turkomatic, a tool that allows requesters to collaboratively design and execute workflows in conjunction with the crowd."

Collective Intelligence in Neural Networks and Social Networks

Collective Intelligence in Neural Networks and Social Networks | Collective2innovation | Scoop.it

"Context for this post: I’m currently working on a social network application that demonstrates the value of connection strength and context for making networks more useful and intelligent. Connection strength and context are currently only rudimentarily and mushily implemented in social network apps. This post describes some of the underlying theory for why connection strength and context are key to next generation social network applications."

IBM Collective Intelligence

IBM Collective Intelligence | Collective2innovation | Scoop.it

"Can an organization that chooses to ignore the insights of employees, customers and business partners expect to thrive? For many, the answer is no. In a global environment where innovation cycles are shrinking, customer expectations are rising and talent is becoming more distributed, companies are seeing the need to more effectively apply the knowledge and experience of individuals, regardless of their vocation, affiliation or organization status.
Fortunately, the opportunity to more effectively apply Collective Intelligence – the aggregated knowledge, insight and expertise of a diverse group – has become a reality. As individuals become more adept and comfortable sharing thoughts and ideas in virtual spaces, companies can use these insights to address critical business challenges. Harnessing Collective Intelligence can play an important role in generating new ideas, solving age-old problems, disaggregating and distributing work in new and innovative ways, and making better, more informed decisions about the future."

Collective intelligence on the edge - Matt Ridley

Matt Ridley's books are worth reading for background on theories regarding the evolution of cooperation. -- Howard

"The key to human achievement is not individual intelligence at all. The reason human beings dominate the planet is not because they have big brains: Neanderthals had big brains but were just another kind of predatory ape. Evolving a 1200-cc brain and a lot of fancy software like language was necessary but not sufficient for civilization. The reason some economies work better than others is certainly not because they have cleverer people in charge, and the reason some places make great discoveries is not because they have smarter people.
Human achievement is entirely a networking phenomenon. It is by putting brains together through the division of labor - through trade and specialisation - that human society stumbled upon a way to raise the living standards, carrying capacity, technological virtuosity and knowledge base of the species. We can see this in all sorts of phenomena: the correlation between technology and connected population size in Pacific islands; the collapse of technology in people who became isolated, like native Tasmanians; the success of trading city states in Greece, Italy, Holland and south-east Asia; the creative consequences of trade.
Human achievement is based on collective intelligence - the nodes in the human neural network are people themselves."
