How Sharing Could Change Your View Of The World

How Sharing Could Change Your View Of The World | CollaborativeIE2 | Scoop.it

Being a part of the sharing economy can erase social barriers. It creates so-called liminal situations that enable us to temporarily distance ourselves from our institutionalized roles and “be ourselves” by bringing people together in an integral way rather than in a “compartmentalized fashion as actors of roles.

As an active participant of both formal and informal sharing networks for more than a decade, I can say that I remember each and every interaction I’ve had over the years. I can remember my first mitfahr (ride sharing) in Germany over ten years ago when I rode with an African family from Munich to Rome.

"Collaborative consumption": the new economy

White Noise revels in the excessive clutter pervading every inch of the novel. Underpinning such fascination, however, is intense anxiety about the way consumption has come to dominate and define the contemporary world, demanding high fossil fuel inputs in return for destabilising carbon emissions and excessive amounts of waste, not to mention the psychological impacts of so much "stuff".

Being willing to share is not only good, it’s also profitable. The Internet revolution has done more than just break down market barriers; it’s built a deeply connected society where everyone and everything is discoverable. Through social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter; we’ve created a global community that has rediscovered its love of sharing-from pictures and stories to files and projects-the Internet we have built reflects our human need to be social and connect with one other. The recent recession and a growing environmental awareness have joined forces with our connected society, creating an economic model that is both very old and wonderfully new. Whether you call it ‘collaborative consumption’ or ‘the mesh’ or ‘web powered sharing’, it’s a powerful force that is changing consumer consumption.
