6 "Could Tell You, But Would Have To Kill You" Internet Marketing Secrets SHARED

6 "Could Tell You, But Would Have To Kill You" Internet Marketing Secrets SHARED | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it

Happy Thanksgiving
As intriguing as the "cold tell you" title is the real reason sharing web design and Internet marketing secrets like these is difficult is how automatic the thinking becomes after 15 years.

Since it is Thanksgiving I wanted to SLOW DOWN and share 5 "inside baseball" secrets about how to create a new kind of real estate design for my realtor Stephanie Lane.

*Five Inside Baseball Website Design Secrets*
1. Use Wordpress Themes.
2. Solve the Umbrella Brand Problem.

3. Tease The Click Don't Drown it.
4. Test Video marketing.

5. Align nonverbals.

6. People and stories sell not cool tech.

Hope these ideas share the "inside baseball" reasons we start with a certain design to achieve objectives. Every idea BEFORE people are visiting a website is worth LESS the moment real people are clicking, so you want that day to happen as soon as possible.

Haiku Deck Not Just An APP Anymore! Great Content Curation and Creation Tool! | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it

Haiku Deck is a completely new kind of presentation software -- it’s simple, beautiful, and fun.

Marty Note
Haiku Deck is one of my favorite content creation tools. Based on a simple brilliant idea - how to make the creative commons accessible - Haiku Deck finds amazing images and you won't get sued when you use them.

That description is really the tip of how I use Haiku Deck. Their UI is so clean, so NOT PowerPoint, I use it to help create TED-like slide decks (i.e. storytelling, visual and no death by bullet points lol).

If you havent used Haiku Deck yet don't miss its many FREE benefits as they move from APP to full fledge software tool that WORKS. Guaranteed you create better content WITH Haiku Deck.

More Thoughts On Online Audience Optimization vs. SEO

More Thoughts On Online Audience Optimization vs. SEO | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it

Beware The NEW Acronym Isn't Same As The Old (SEO)
There was a summer night sitting on the beach watching fireflies when we knew something had to change. Directors of Ecommerce like I used to be learned how to balance a website between the technical aspects of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and the functional and practical aspects of what is now being called OAO (Online Audience Optimization).

Sometimes the new boss is the same as the old, but this isn't one of those. This new acronym seems strained and way to general to ever attain the universal meaning of SEO. Problem is SEO really became the one term everyone knew but didn’t really understand.

Even if you sort of maybe worked on a website a little years ago you knew SEO, but no your really didn't. SEO was a complex set of rules for using Google's algorithm math against it. They set up the game so using it against them seemed fair.

Problem is fair to whom. Obsession with Google required ignoring customers and finding the balance beam between them (Google and customers) became larger the longer someone managed a website. Google is like Kool-Aid the longer you drink it the more it took over.

Now with Google's new emphasis on heuristics, the data showing how many HEARTS and MINDS you influence, Kool-Aid is replaced by whatever is working now. "Working" in this context is winning the signals that confirm growing LOVE and ADVOCACY.

Fewer rules and more variables mean those who know themselves best, listen better and pivot faster win. If you can do that best by using a new three-letter acronym OAO should work. Just don't fall in love with the wrong thing (again), don't drink this Kool-Aid.

Curation as a Business Model in Abundance and Commodity Markets

Curation as a Business Model in Abundance and Commodity Markets | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it

Via Robin Good, Ken Dickens
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

This is a great read and what I'm betting on heavily at our crowdfunding cancer research website and nonprofit http://www.curecancerstarter.org. I love this quote:

?No longer do we rely on a few experts and advertisers to dole out information according to their own priorities, and passively consume that information. On the contrary, content can be created and curated by literally thousands of ‘average’ people with above average interest and insight, and spread across huge aggregations of likeminded people."

Frames my belief and our bet well.

Interesante propuesta de negocio mediante la curación de contenidos

Prof. Hankell's curator insight, August 7, 2013 10:19 AM
Robin Good's insight:

Mitch Free writes on Forbes about the unique business value that curation can bring to those markets where there is already an abundance of choices.

"The web has revolutionized access to information. If you travel to a new city, you don’t have to wait to ask a hotel concierge or local contact which restaurants are worth your time: that information is at your fingertips long before you arrive.

The web’s universality and ubiquity are also its weaknesses, however: even if all are listed online, choosing from the 25,000 restaurants in New York City still requires a local’s advice.

While “curation” might bring to mind the image of a red-jacketed museum staffer scowling at you for taking flash photographs, in the digital age it’s becoming an increasingly critical – and lucrative – business model.

No longer is access to information precious in itself. Information is overwhelmingly available, and those in a position to tame the tidal wave into a useful format offer a valuable service."

The articles uses as a reference example the case of a new restaurant listing site that curates the best 100 restaurants in 100 cities by charging qualifying restaurants.

Rightful. Interesting. 7/10

Ken Dickens's curator insight, August 7, 2013 1:00 PM

Non-Profits are a commodity. There are over 1.5 million of them in the US alone, all with great causes, all with their hands out to ask for money. Enter Donor Fatigue.  Want to stand out? Become "the" source of information on your cause. In other words, give to get.  You will stand out. You will gain trust.  And, you will raise money.

Content Marketing: Content Is Media, Marketing The Point

Content Marketing: Content Is Media, Marketing The Point | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it

Great rant I can related to from  @Ammon_Johns here. When I insisted our online catalog marketing would be better off with CONTENT in 2003 I was almost tarred and feathered and run out of town.

Ammon's point that content marketing is not new resonates, but his point that content marketing is TWO things not one is truth. The Black Friday door buster rush toward content marketing by THE MOB is mindless and stupid.

Ammon points out that content without marketing is a tree falling in the forest with no one to hear it. Noise it may make, but who cares. The content marketing tree is falling ON many teams. Teams, who do the one, content, without fully understanding the other, marketing, are soon to say content marketing sucks, is over promised and under delivered.

Funny how that works. When we don't understand something, execute it poorly and then lick our wounds we rarely turn inward and see our mistakes. Instead we howl and the moon and say concepts Ammon and I have believed in since we started clicking on Mosaic - content matters true but without a marketing mind connecting it to brand, purpose and mission all is moot and quiet.

The Lean Design Movement Book Project - Publishing A Book In 3 Weeks (Submission Deadline 10.31)

The Lean Design Movement Book Project - Publishing A Book In 3 Weeks (Submission Deadline 10.31) | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

My 3 post-cancer BHAGs are DONE! We launched the last of my triptych last week when http://www.curcancerstarter.org joined http://www.curecancerstore.org and they join my 2010 bicycle ride to "cure cancer" across America.

So now that I'm a man of leisure I've decided to print a book about the Lean Design Movement in 3 weeks. Today I had an epiphany.

Thought it was a stroke at first, but nope an honest to goodness epiphany. Here are the links that will explain the Lean Design Movement:

   https://plus.google.com/102639884404823294558/posts/XHXxCn5qgEb

https://plus.google.com/102639884404823294558/posts/3jFjeERF4uv

I’ve invited great friends and writers to draft off of the concept feeding it into their particular expertise or loves. I asked @RobinGood to write about cool tools, Guillaume and Ally to share how creating a cool tool like Scoop.it helps the movement (asked Kelly and Paper.li team too).

I am paying all printing costs and profits will go to the Story of Cancer Foundation. Will probably have my friend Meredith Pratt do the book design and print with LuLu (they are here in Raleigh, NC).

Goal is to have a book about how the Lean Design Movement changes everything. I left an open chapter. If you would like to contribute 1,000 words by Halloween jump in and send your thoughts to Martin(at)StoryofCancer.org.

If we receive more than one submission for the open chapter we will create a social poll or something. Here is your chance to be a published author and have your contribution along side some great writers and Internet marketers.

I'm paying all publishing costs and profits, if there are any, will help cure cancer so jump in, write 1,000 words on how something you love and know well will be changed by the Lean Content Movement.

Deadline 10.31
Send your submission to Martin(at)StoryofCancer.org
