SEO For Web Designers Passes 8,000 Views via @HaikuDeck | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it
Web designers shouldn't be SEO experts since keeping up with DESIGN is a full-time job. But web designers are where SEO rubber meets the Google Road so understanding a handful of ideas is critical to the online success of any designers creations.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Fastest Haiku Deck to 8,000 views we've ever created. Spiders in the jungle is helpful for anyone creating web content....and who isn't?

The Content Marketing Triptych + One

The Content Marketing Triptych + One | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it

Content Marketing's Triptych
In the comments of this post an interesting conversation broke out with the Haiku Deck startup team. Haiku Deck helped me understand 2 legs of the content marketing triptych:

* Cool easy to use curation tool that mashes something of valuable up into something more valuable.
* Galleries where the gold of User Generated Content and fast feedback loops can be easily mined.

The third leg is:

* Creation of outward facing "MyAccount" pages that encourage, gamify and curate a customer's favorites, lists and original content.

You can see an example of the third piece in the puzzle on my Scoop.it "homepage": @Martin (Marty) Smith

The +1 Is you need one more tool to make the triptych work. You need a tool capable of finding your 1% Contributors, 9% Supporters and 90% Readers AND define them based on contextual trust. You can't form an appropriate ask if you don't know what your contributors and supporters love.

Curagami, the tool we are creating with Startup Factory funds, is THAT tool :).

The Death Of SEO? The Rise of Social, PR, And Real Content - Forbes

The Death Of SEO? The Rise of Social, PR, And Real Content - Forbes | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it

This article is the top of the FORBES heap and easy to see why. "Real content' i.e. content that creates social shares rules the post Panda Internet marketing world.

Via Andrea Corry
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

SEO's "Death" Exaggereated, But Different
I agree and disagree with Forbes most popular article. SEO in the old "over optimized" way we practiced SEO is dead. Creating SEO for your content marketing via the advanced techniques of siloing, bottling and preventing PR bleed is even MORE important in a post Panda world.

Don't toss baby and bathwater. Real content in a well structured keyword silo with grerat social shares will outperform the same content without the very technical SEO championed by Bruce Clay, Russell Wright and yours truly (I studied wtih Bruce Clay like Russell Wright :).

It looks like we're in a renaissance. Old school PR, your ability to be effective with social media and great content is what will make a difference to getting the word out about your brand.

Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, March 4, 2013 4:31 PM

Why give away a million dollar idea? Why not? I learned this idea from friends, lost it and found it again from other friends this last Saturday. The idea ties browsers (Chrome, IE, whatever) to the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) via a simple App that uses schema Google makes available to anyone.

The net impact of this simple idea is Google becomes your partner in your company's search engine marketing. You get YOUR logo on Google when a "logged in member" is searching.

Three years ago there was too much "login friction", friction now solved by Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus "create an account with social" APIs. What do you owe me if you use Search Engine Gamification to make millions? Nothing but a donation to cancer research would be nice.

I also stand ready to help anyone create this tool FREE and bet I can enlist some of my friends too. Why give away a million dollar idea? SOT, Sign of the Times and not worth anything locked up in my head :).

Lists: 10 Reasons to Take a Fresh Look (Monty Python style) | via @listly | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it

Have you seen slidedecks or infographics that look like lists? Media is morphing with a focus on reuse. We all want to get more with less. Are you experimenting?

Marty
Agree and there is something MAGICAL in the backend about the stacked list. Google love 'em. Also agree that lists provide a cool social opportunity because lists are UNIVERSAL.

Doesn't matter if you are an American, German or Italian we bet you make lists. LIsts are the crib sheet of our too busy and technically overwhelmed lives.

Looking for socially engaging content, and WHO ISN'T, we have a single word for you LISTS.

Aspirational Self Vs. Real Self, Google, Filter Bubbles & New SEO: Eli Pariser TED Video

http://www.ted.com As web companies strive to tailor their services (including news and search results) to our personal tastes, there's a dangerous unintende...

Martin Note
Eli's TED talk is worth the price of admission for his easy to understand explanation of how SEO has been torched. His discussion about "filter bubbles" and how they "curate the world for us" and the cautionary tale (that we may never see a challenging thing ever again) that goes along with a math controlled world.

"We need the new gatekeepers to encode a sense of "public life" and that they (the math) are transparent enough that we can see and control the SHOCK OF THE NEW we can manage".

Eli's "what we see is who we become" point is important. As gatekeepers presume to judge what we should see they are making judgements about who we can and will become. Fascinating conversation as the balance beam between our aspirational and real selves is think and fragile. M

5 Common SEO Mistakes That Hurt Collaboration

5 Common SEO Mistakes That Hurt Collaboration | Collaborative Revolution | Scoop.it
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

SEO and Partnerships
Can your SEO mistakes kill a partnership? Sure if you forget or worse you remember to NOT share with your collaborators your online success will be limited and short lived. Don't make these 5 SEO Mistakes because they harm your partnerships

5 SEO Mistakes That Harm Partnerships
1. Rel No Follow Links back to collaborators and partners.

2. Not using canonical URLs when duping content.

3. Not using block quotes when copying content from another source.

4. Not using Google author tags (this robs them and you).

5. Not supporting your collaborators (official or otherwise) with social.

Usually you want to bottle up your PageRank, but you want Google-Juice to flow across to collaborators since it is your way of repaying their contribution. Don't bogart a joint or use rel no follow links with collaborators.

When you grab content from somewhere and bring it to your site is sure to either use canonical URLs to identify it as NOT to play with the search engine spider OR block quote it. Either will protect you from duplicate content penalties.

Be sure to use Google author tags since to not do so robs YOU and THEM. When you use the proper tag you bring THEIR author juice aboard and you help them continue to build their online content marketing reputation.

Be sure to Tweet, G+ and Facebook thanks and credit to your collaborators and don't just drive those links back to stuff you own. Be sure to spread some links OUT to them as taking actions like that make you an AUTHORITY and believe me you want that.
