Wework Raises the Bar for What a Workplace Can Be | Collaborative, Productive and Innovative Workspaces | Scoop.it
We need to pay attention to the coworking juggernaut because it's making money by providing the kinds of workplaces workers are willing to pay for
Clarence | MSRE, LEED GA's insight:

With office utilization rates down and shared/collaborative spaces becoming more popular, it makes sense to sublet small excess office space to contractors etc. Websites like wework are becoming popular facilitators of this subletting process.

Getting up and moving away from the conference table can increase collaboration and performance, a new study finds.
Clarence | MSRE, LEED GA's insight:

For your next group meeting, try having everyone stand up instead of sit down for the entire meeting. Supposedly this can help improve group performance by increasing energy levels, making members less territorial, and opening up the exchange of ideas.  At my former job, the product development teams had 'daily standup meetings' and now I know why.

The Untapped Potential Of Unused Capacities

The Untapped Potential Of Unused Capacities | Collaborative, Productive and Innovative Workspaces | Scoop.it

Companies can benefit from the trend toward “collaborative consumption” through creative new approaches to defining and distributing their offerings.

Clarence | MSRE, LEED GA's insight:

As the SF per employee continues to shrink, open/collaborative workspaces and telecommuting options are becoming more popular, creating demand for hoteling, or reservation-based unassigned seating of corporate office space.

LiquidSpace, a service that connects corporate real estate owners with temporary renters who want to lease excess office space on a short-term basis, has been dubbed the 'Airbnb of work spaces'.  These types of services will help maximize the office space utilization rate.

New city-backed facility targeting startups opens as The Commons

New city-backed facility targeting startups opens as The Commons | Collaborative, Productive and Innovative Workspaces | Scoop.it
Startups have a new place to get started in Denver with Wednesday's opening of The Commons on Champa, a campus aimed at helping local entrepreneurs, from artists and food-truck owners to developers of consumer products and mobile apps.
Clarence | MSRE, LEED GA's insight:

By providing low cost incubator space for lease, the city of Denver hopes to attract new talented start-ups. Also, since the city is providing the building, the operating costs for heating and utilities will be lower, so the rents received should more than offset these costs. The excess revenues will go towards entrepreneurial programs and workshops.

Environmental Construction Services Inc., United American Builders, BFW Group and Jidan Cleaning recently consolidated their HQs at previous separate locations into one building. Common area space will provide internet services, building information modeling (BIM) and reception service, but will also serve as collaboration space to devise common business initiatives.
