A Hub Within A Hub - Using Collaborative Space To Boost The Games Industry | Collaborative, Productive and Innovative Workspaces | Scoop.it

"Cited by a recent Centre for Cities report as one of most significant technology clusters in the United Kingdom, the area around Bristol and Bath in the West of England has established itself as a key centre for entrepreneurial activity in fields such digital media, robotics, aerospace and security. Perhaps surprisingly, given the development and creative skills on hand, the games industry has not been particularly strong in the area in recent years. Now a collaborative space working space venture has set out to re-energise games development in the South West, while giving artists and programmers access to a new and more productive way of working."

We have been witnessing major transformations in the corporate mentality regarding office design. Here are some of the main workspace design trends...

According to this infographic from Alliance Interiors, more changes are yet to come, as the office of the future will be less business-focused and more employee-oriented. As a result of switching from closed offices to open offices- one of the most visible upgrade in workspace layout- we find out that the speed and accuracy of work has increased with 440%. This is mostly why open offices will continue to shape working environments in the years to come.

Research in office design has shown a need for quiet spaces
Clarence Wong's insight:

Open spaces can be effective for collaboration, but there also need to be some 'quiet' spaces in the floor plan where it's less busy and individuals can get away to focus.  These 'quiet' spaces don't necessarily need to be fixed in nature; they can be created as needed by temporarily partitioning off designated areas in a variety of ways.
