Talk, Reach, Throw, Go, Tow... A framework for coaching teachers through problem solving stressful situations. This analogy of "boating" puts coaching simply. We start by talking out the problem. If that does not work (which sometimes it will not especially in a moment of stress), then offer support... "What can I do to help you?" "What is one thing I could do to help right now?". Depending on where your teacher is, your level of support may continue with providing them resources and materials to get them moving in the right direction, to actually helping them produce what needs to be done through structure collaboration. Teaching is a stressful job but mentors and coaches need to remind younger teachers that they do have "wings to fly". Sometimes in a moment of chaos or extreme stress, it's hard to remember that.
