Cognac Frapin among the oldest companies on earth

Cognac Frapin among the oldest companies on earth | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it
Oldies but goodies.

Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:

1270 is the year when Frapin family located in the Charente vineyards.

This family succeeded to combine the commercial techniques of the major trading houses and the know-how to traditional winemakers-distillers to offer today cognacs only from its own vineyards.

Only this is worth making the trip to Segonzac

One thing the French know how to do is celebrate their independence. In the world of cognac producers, to be an internationally known brand and still be independent after well over a century is something that deserves a party.
Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:

Cognac can still be a family business even though the four larger cognac trading houses are all owned by conglomerates. Camus, as the largest independent trading house of cognac, is the perfect example.

Which one do you choose ?

Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:

These are very beautiful objects that are presented here.

I say "object" because the cost of the packaging is higher than the liquid therein.

Do you know that some of these exceptional liquids can be tasted and purchased directly from the property.

In Las Vegas, a timeless cocktail blended with the great History of the world

In Las Vegas, a timeless cocktail blended with the great History of the world | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it

Vegas loves to test your limits. If you think a $15 to $20 cocktail is overpriced, think again. There are some decadent drinks in Sin City that can literally empty your bank account.

1914 Sidecar is one of them.

Why 1914 ? Because of the cognac to prepare the cocktail...

Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:

The history of this cognac is blended with the great History of the world...

This cognac is from 1914, the first year of World War I. As the story goes, the men of Segonzac, the capital city of the Grande Champagne Cognac in France, had been called upon to fight on the Western Front.

After their departure, the women who remained behind distilled a small batch of the region’s famous tipple – the Ferrand Cognac Memoire 1914.

Today enjoy some time with a timeless cocktail...

Instead of Las Vegas, you may also come to Segonzac and trace the history of the world in search of exceptionally old cognacs.

5 Things + 1 You Must Know About Cognac

5 Things + 1 You Must Know About Cognac | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it
Cognac. What is it good for? Absolutely everything.

Well, not everything. But many of the things that count, such as drinking, drinking and drinking. Oh, and baking!

Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:

The 6th thing to know is that cognac is not only a spirit that needs to be drunk in moderation but Cognac is also a city and a vineyard.

That vineyard is the widest in the world for white wines to be distilled.

That vineyard houses the largest concentration of traditional distilleries in the world, far ahead of Scotland

That vineyard is very discreet and the best way to discover the 500 and more cognacs that are marketed is touring and meeting distillers with family reserves that still wait for you...

Cognac, It’s All About the Barrels - PALATE PRESS

Cognac, It’s All About the Barrels - PALATE PRESS | The Cognac and its vineyards | Scoop.it
I returned with a newfound interest and a deep curiosity towards the very precise, and creative barrel regimen techniques used by cellar masters in Cognac.
Jean-Luc Montembault's insight:

Half of French cooperages are located in the Cognac country. No coincidence to this.

One barrel has to be kept from its production day, for more than 50 years, only for aging cognac and nothing else. Unlike many other spirits, no reuse of barrels originally used for wines, fortified wines...  In the other hand, a number of second-hand cognac barrels are used for aging other spirits such as whisky or rum !....
More about it ? Come and visit a traditional cooperage with us...
